Job Summary
The Child Life Activity Specialist assists in providing treatment services for the development, maintenance, and expression of an appropriate leisure/play and social lifestyle for pediatric patients and/or siblings. Treatment services are designed to improve the patient's emotional, cognitive, social, and physical/functional growth and development to enhance wellness and fitness. This role provides developmental stimulation, therapeutic play and activities, and family support to help reduce stress, increase adaptive coping, and enhance developmental growth. This individual is also responsible for assisting with inpatient and/or outpatient areas, as deemed appropriate.
BILINGUAL SKILLS IN ENGLISH/SPANISH IS HIGHLY PREFERRED.
Experience
  • Required: Previous and/or current experience working with infants, children, and/or adolescents.
  • Preferred: Two (2) years of professional experience working with children.
Education
  • Required: Two (2) years of college or associate degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, or closely related field.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, or closely related field.
Training
  • Required: None required.
  • Preferred: Internship, Fieldwork or Volunteer experience in the pediatric setting.
Specialized Skills
  • Required: Ability to positively interact with children and families. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to prioritize and complete duties in a timely and organized manner. Ability to work in collaboration and in positive manner with others. Ability to perform duties independently of other Child Life Specialists. Perform work according to CHOC’s policies and procedures, professional standards of care, and applicable laws. Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards. Care with sensitivity and respect. Advance care through the development of new ideas and technology. Promote teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission. Understand and exceed customer expectations. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal relationship and collaboration skills.
  • Preferred: Bilingual skills in English/Spanish.
Licensure
  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or CHOC BLS Prep Course for RQI completed within 90 days of hire or transfer into position

Pay Range
16.87 - 22.35 - 27.83 USD Hourly
