CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the accounting operations of the property management company and investment company
  • Oversee the financial preparation for the management company, investment company and various real estate investment funds
  • Assist property accounting team in problem resolution
  • Prepare property management fee calculations
  • Support the annual budgeting process including creating templates
  • Prepare or file annual reports and registrations for all entities
  • Assist in the tracking of property tax to ensure timely payment
  • Assist in the annual property insurance renewal process
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly distribution calculations for in-house investments as well 3rd party management clients
  • Prepare investor reporting and analyze financial statements, various performance returns metrics (IRR, equity multiples, etc.) and other financial and operating reports of real estate investments
  • Oversee external fund administrator
  • Manage the Fund audit process and research questions from auditors
  • Coordinate the tax return preparation with external firm for all entities
  • Oversee K-1 preparation process to ensure timely completion for investors
  • Coordinate and oversee acquisitions and dispositions by working with various external parties i.e., third parties, sellers, legal counsel, lenders etc.
  • Complete proration calculations for property acquisitions and dispositions as well as preparing all necessary journal entries
  • Lead the new loan and refinance process
  • Lead the communication with lenders as it pertains to financial reporting, loan draw administration, reserves management, rate cap renewals etc.
  • Complete reserve draws for lenders
  • Track and report all loan compliance requirements including required repairs

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance or accounting (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Experience in real estate / property management preferred, but not required
  • CPA Designation strongly preferred
  • Investment Accounting a plus
  • Knowledge of property level debt financing a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, team player, collaborative and well organized
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Intermediate/Advanced Excel skills
  • Yardi experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish directives
  • Ability to work across department lines and collaboratively to facilitate processes
  • Ability to read and interpret legal documents and communicate requirements to business stakeholders
