Job description

The Chemical Dependency Technician (CDT) assists nurses with admissions and discharge of patients, to include patients withdrawing from alcohol and/or drugs. The incumbent monitors patient actions and behaviors, takes vital signs and transports patients, as required. The CDT performs general housekeeping duties.

We have two full-time 12-hour day shift positions:

1) (7 am - 7 pm; Sun-Tue one week, then Sun-Wed., etc.)

2) (7 am - 7 pm; Thur. - Sat. one week, then Wed. - Sat., etc.)

  • Lift and/or carry food and supplies, as required.
  • Answer telephone and complete telephone screening forms and report information to Nurse.
  • Perform non-medical intake on incoming patients.
  • Log and store patient’s personal belongings.
  • Take and record vital signs per protocol.
  • Distribute supplies to patients.
  • Prepare and serve meals and beverages, as required.
  • Monitor patient intake of food and liquids.
  • Monitor activities and behaviors of patients, to include notifying nurse of unusual behaviors.
  • Report patient behavior to Nurse.
  • Assist Nurse with patient in an emergency, as directed.
  • Inventory supplies.
  • Arrange, store and stock supplies.
  • Coordinate with Nurse for discharge of patients.
  • Remove bedding, clean linen, sanitize and make bed.
  • Wash, dry, fold and store laundry.
  • Clean bathroom, showers, tubs, sinks and toilets.
  • Wash windows, as required.
  • Empty garbage cans in patient rooms and in other units, as required.
  • Transport food and supplies, as required.
  • Make rounds at beginning and end of each assigned shift with on-coming and off-going Aide.
  • Consult with Nurse on duty as needed and follow protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We also have an open full-time float position to fill open shifts to cover sick days & vacations.

  • One (1) year experience in mental health or in the medical health care field or, One (1) year of education or training in alcohol and drug treatment, or One (1) year experience in a substance abuse inpatient treatment facility, or One (1) year combination of experience and training which demonstrates ability to successfully perform the duties of this job. Must manually lift or assist in lifting an adult, following proper lifting requirements.
  • Valid CNA license preferred
  • Provide and maintain on file a current First Aid Card, CPR Card, and Food and Beverage Handlers Card
  • Must have a valid/current Washington State Drivers License and provide proof of auto insurance.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and substance abuse treatment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to take and record vital signs.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • Record concise and accurate information in medical log.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
