Charge Capture Analyst
Location: Whittier, CA 90602
Position: Charge Capture Analyst
Pay Rate: $ 35.64/hr
Duration: 13 weeks
Expected Shift: Day 5x8-Hour 7:30a-4:00p
Job Summary:
The Charge Capture Analyst works with medical records to determine appropriate charges for a patients stay in the hospital. The person will be primarily assigned to work on Emergency Department and Observation accounts needing charges posted. The person will assign charges based on the documentation found in the medical record.
Assigns charges to correspond with CPT codes via the appropriate charge master codes for E&M
services, infusion and surgical procedures performed in the Emergency Department.
SPECIFIC SKILLS NEEDED:
At a minimum, a 7-year background check, education verification, employment verification, and drug screen will be conducted upon hire. Your suitability for employment is contingent upon successfully passing these required pre-employment screenings.

Job Summary:
The Charge Capture Analyst works with medical records to determine appropriate charges for a patients stay in the hospital. Assigns charges to correspond with CPT codes via the appropriate charge master codes for E&M
services, infusion and surgical procedures performed in the Emergency Department.
- Accurately captures all appropriate codes/modifiers, ensuring that there are no to very few CCI edit violations
- Identifies Emergency Department supply charges as appropriate
- Enters charges that are accurate to the treatment the patient received and is appropriately
documented - Reconciles charges that have been entered into charge entry against the ER and Observation daily logs
- Batches medical records/charges and reconciles against the daily ED coding report. Highlights any accounts that need additional CPT-4/HCPCS coding when a charge is not available for a specific service
- Corrects charges that have either been missed or over charged through error logs, biller or coder notifications
- Provides feedback regarding documentation to Emergency Department physician's and PA's
- Demonstrates an understanding of compliance issues related to coding, APC assignment,
documentation, record retention and other critical issues relating to the revenue cycle - Maintains a minimum amount of backlog 2 working days behind coding. Reports backlog, missing
reports or other issues that delay charging/coding to the Director of Revenue Integrity - Actively supports and contributes to the hospital compliance program. Works closely with the Director of Revenue Integrity to identify issues, establish appropriate charges, and to ensure billing compliance
- Supports the hospital quality improvement endeavors by identifying potential issues in the charging process
- Performs other duties as assigned by department management.
SPECIFIC SKILLS NEEDED:
- Understanding of medical terms used in Hospital Emergency and Observation units
- Ability to analyze medical records and interpret documentation into charges
- Knowledge and competence in abstracting charges from Emergency and Observation patient records
- Ability to navigate through numerous computer programs to obtain data and input data
- Familiar with Word and Excel programs
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Excellent guest relations
- Must have 1 year of Charge Capture Experience
