The Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove (WVHUG) is seeking multiple limited-term employment (LTE) Nursing Assistant 2 (Certified Nursing Assistant (CNAs)) to provide direct and indirect care to our members. WVHUG is a 24/7/365 skilled-nursing, long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled Wisconsin veterans and their spouses. Our facility is in Racine County, a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and other key locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Come join our dedicated care team!

These are flexible part-time positions with the option to pick up additional hours as desired with no required overtime. Shifts are available AM, PM, NOC, weekends and holidays, and include pay differentials.

Position Summary


Be a part of our mission to serve and honor the veterans who have chosen WVHUG as their retirement home!

CNAs at WVHUG provide direct and indirect patient care, following standards set by the American Nurses Association; gerontological nursing practice; federal, state and Veterans Administration regulations; and the mission, philosophy, policies and procedures of this agency. Job duties include providing care per a written care plan to help meet the needs of WVHUG members, including care to help maintain the demented member at the highest functional level. CNAs work as an integral part of the health care team, under the direction of licensed nursing staff, with limited supervision by a Nursing Supervisor.

Salary Information


Starting wage is $18.82 per hour, with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

A $5.00 per hour temporary add-on will be paid for all hours worked in an eligible Nursing Assistant 2 shift at WVHUG through June 17, 2023.

This position is in pay schedule-pay range 06-11.

This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details


Core Shifts Available

  • AM 1st Shift - 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • PM 2nd Shift - 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • NOC 3rd Shift - 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

**LTEs may work partial shifts on request.**

Job duties require the ability to assist in patient mobility efforts, stand and/or walk up to 75% of eight-hour day to provide assessments, kneel, stoop, make visual observations, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, maintain hygiene, use special safety equipment, and wear protective clothing. Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Employees at this healthcare facility are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by date of hire. Reasonable accommodations for exemptions to this requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable law.

LTE jobs are limited to 1039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include employee benefits.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will be certified or eligible for certification as a Nurse Aide in the State of Wisconsin and be eligible to work in a federally certified nursing home as a CNA. In addition, they will have experience:

  • Providing basic nursing care; and
  • Communicating professionally; and
  • Using computer systems and applications; and
  • Following infection control practices

Well-qualified applicants will also have experience:

  • Maintaining equipment and inventory; and/or
  • Performing safety and security duties; and/or
  • Providing patient care in a long-term care, geriatric, or skilled nursing setting
