GENERAL:

In accordance with the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual and the requirements of our accrediting bodies, the employee will: support the mission “Partnering with our community for quality health and healing”, the five core values “Ownership, Always better than yesterday, Service first, Integrity, and Stewardship of our resources (OASIS). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide assistance with ADL’s, oral care and bathing needs to all patients assigned, at least once a shift
  • Assist patient in ambulation, turning and positioning (assure patients confined to bed are turned at least every 2 hours during a shift), using proper body mechanics
  • Accurately measure and record intake and output, pass and collect meal trays in a timely manner
  • Obtain, record and report to RN patients vital signs and condition as ordered or per hospital policy
  • Assist in point of care testing, i.e. glucose testing via fingerstick
  • Demonstrates proficiency on patient registration
  • Demonstrates proficiency on computer entries, completes tasks and records on computer in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates proficiency in setting up medical equipment
  • Age appropriate care, including infant , child, adolescent, adult and geriatric
  • Department specific care, OB, M/S, ED

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

The Certified Nursing Assistant shall:


1. High School graduate or equivalent

2. Previous experience working in a medical or health care facility preferred but not required

3. Must possess communication skills to relate to the public in person

4. Demonstrate good organizational abilities

5. Seeks proficiencies in computer applications, e.g. word processing, spread sheets, database, presentation, and project publication.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write policies and procedures that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and is knowledgeable in metric, apothecary and household measurements and can convert from one system to another.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to modify care based on the developmental / functional age of the patient as well as that of the patient's ethnic background.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:


  • BLS
  • Wyoming State License as a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to interact with patients, families, visitors and co-workers. Ability to interact assertively and tactfully when dealing with conflict and in group solving activities. Ability to demonstrate a professional, open minded approach in identifying problems and resolving problems/conflicts.


AGE SPECIFIC:

Must be able to provide care according to the developmental level and or chronological patient served. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying the needs and abilities of each patient, and demonstrating an understanding of how a patient’s chronological and developmental age influences his/her need for adaptations related to his/her abilities. Also, an understanding of how a patient’s age impacts his/her ability to deal with and adapt to the care needed/provided is required. General census of neonatal to geriatric patients

While filling this position, the employee must regularly lift and or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. This position also requires walking or standing to a significant degree. This position also requires reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, and hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, and working with equipment.
