POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible to the LPN, RN, and Director of Nursing, assuring the efficient provision of health services and the smooth flow of patient care through SMC. Performs a variety of tasks as an entry level worker on the health care team. Assists LPN and Physician in caring for client and provides treatments as required. Introduces the client and/or client’s family into the health care system, is the liaison between the client, client’s family, and health care providers.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • Works under the close supervision of the Licensed Practical Nurse and Registered Nurse. Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Assists with obtaining information from client and/or family for Center records.
  • Obtain vital signs (B/P TPR) as directed by LPN or Physician: as well as appropriate laboratory tests ( blood and urine) as directed by physicians or LPN
  • Perform vein-punctures, specimen collection(s) and prepares requisitions for laboratory and x-ray work as directed by the LPN, RN, or physician.
  • Perform vision and hearing screening as well as administering First Aid under the direction of the LPN or physician.
  • Performing electrocardiograms and/or placing patients on holster monitors.
  • Assists with admission of patients from clinical waiting area to treatment room. Prepares patient for treatment and examination by Physician. Drapes and wraps patient appropriately.

  • Is familiar with administrative and clinical nursing policies and procedures.
  • Is familiar Assists client in discharge from clinical area.
  • Is familiar with:
  • All emergency equipment, with contents of trays, packs, and the location of equipment and supplies.

Care of central supply equipment

Checks equipment for safety, proper operation and tagging by maintenance.

  • Cleans and sterilize equipment and instruments using the autoclave
  • Cleans and stocks all patients rooms after use
  • Assists in cleaning and maintaining supplies in examination rooms
  • Demonstrates infection control principles

a. Hand washing

b. Aseptic technique

c. Sterile technique

d. Adheres to isolation procedures

e. Stays available and accessible at all times when on duty.

f. Attends required in service education programs, staff, and departmental meetings.

g. Documents appropriate information in the client’s EHR and signs name and title

appropriately.

  • Attends work as regularly scheduled without use of excessive sick leave.
  • Acts rapidly and calmly during emergencies and provides necessary materials called for by the R.N.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Has the ability to relate to the health needs of the client.
  • Has the ability to read and understand health care charting and medical procedures.
  • Must have the ability to provide care, patience, and understanding.
  • Has the ability to effectively communicate.
  • Able to perform basic health care procedures that relates to patient care needs according to nursing skill checklist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School education or equivalent, Accredited Medical Assistant Course and/or 1-2 years of experience in a health care setting and certified by American Association of Medical Assistants. Must maintain certification by either re-examination or continuing education credit (CEU). CEU are obtained by attending AAMA approved programs. Must have passed certification test and be able to provide certification number.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure communicable disease or bodily fluids.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and/or other conditions common to a clinic environment.
