Pay Range: $16.95 - $24.69 per hour

Your starting hourly wage will be directly based upon years of relevant experience to the position. We will give you full credit for each year of past experience you have.

Basic Job Function and Responsibilities

The persons in this position are responsible for the technical functional tasks involved in the decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of all reprocessed items and including full surgical instruments trays. The incumbents are also responsible for developing and maintaining systems and projects under the direction of the Central Sterilization Leadership. Promotes the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization.

Job Duties/Performance Expectations

  • Receives collects, sorts, and processes all items through the Decontamination Room, the processing area, the sterilization area, and the case cart area. Operates all equipment in these areas.
  • Assembles, prepares, inspects, and checks operability of equipment, instruments, supplies, and other materials. Assembles instrument trays and sets, processes peel pack items, surgical power equipment, scopes, linen packs, floor trays and other items for sterilization and/or re-distribution.
  • Performs flexible endoscope processing functions (i.e. cleaning, decontamination, high level disinfection, assembly and packaging, sterilization storage and distribution) of flexible endoscopes.
  • Operates steam, Sterrad sterilizers, Medivator AER and other processing equipment. Conducts biological spore tests and maintains accurate records of same. Keeps load records on each group of items sterilized. Monitors temperature and functionality of sterilizers.
  • Assists in maintaining and ordering stock of processing supplies.
  • Responsible for picking case carts and surgical add on case carts.
  • Checks supply levels of processed items in the Distribution Room daily. Rotates supplies and removes out-dated items for reprocessing.
  • Observes precautions in handling contaminated or isolation supplies and equipment, and follows all isolation procedures.
  • Cleans all work surfaces at least once each shift, including drawers, shelves, and carts. Restock your work area at the end of the shift. Maintains cleanliness and orderliness in all areas.
  • Assists new personnel during training period after competencies are completed.
  • Develops and maintains systems and projects under the direction of the Lead Technician/Supervisor.
  • Observes all safety regulations and precautions, Knows emergency functions (Fire, disaster, etc.) for the Central Sterilization area.
  • Takes responsibility for continuing personal education.
  • Performs additional similar duties under the direction of the Lead Central Sterilization Technicians/Supervisor or the Central Sterilization Manager.
  • Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborn and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment. Expects the same of other team members.
  • Ensures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience - Required.

Experience

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience as a Surgical Processing Technician - Preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in the English language - Required.
  • Demonstrated ability and initiative in performance of non-routine tasks/projects without direct supervision - Required.

Certification, Licensure or Registration

  • Certification by the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel as a Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (C.D.PD.T.) within 24 months - Required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) validation or successfully complete Basic Life Support (BLS) course within 6 months of hire - Required.
