DARS a 2022 ATD Best Winner in Talent Development is seeking a Career Assessment Counselor.
In partnership with customers and vocational rehabilitation counselors, Career Assessment Counselors assess the vocational potential of persons with disabilities. In person or virtual services may occur throughout the rehabilitation process. With a focus on the achievement of employment outcomes, they will use multi-modal assessment techniques. Integrates assessment results into written documentation, with recommendations based on objective and professional findings. Serves as a consultant to vocational rehabilitation counselors, schools, businesses, and community partners, as needed, by providing career assessments and task analysis services. Serves as a lead in informing staff on labor market information and educational opportunities that connects job candidates to appropriate training and positions.

This position will cover Manassas and Culpeper offices in the counties of Prince William, Fauquier, Culpeper, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Vocational Evaluation, or a closely related field required.
Considerable knowledge of the social, economic, medical, and psychological issues which impact persons with disabilities: interviewing, evaluation, and counseling techniques; methods, tools, observations for career counseling and exploration; ADA compliance requirements; and of a broad range of occupations and occupational requirements, the regional employment market, educational opportunities and job analysis techniques.
Working knowledge of test and measurements, validity, reliability, and statistical procedures; and of Windows based computer software, or similar word processing software.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from varying social and economic environments; to communicate clearly and concisely, orally, and in writing; to interpret and apply complex policies and procedures in the provision of services; to establish employment opportunities through contracts with businesses and other organizations in a timely manner; to prioritize duties and exercise good judgment with minimal supervision.
Ability to select, administer, and interpret assessment tools/techniques and work samples which address academic achievement levels, aptitudes, interests, physical abilities, and related knowledge, skills, and abilities; to interpret results and develop logical, meaningful recommendations regarding the vocational rehabilitation needs of clients and make valid independent decisions and observations regarding a client’s potential to successfully function in a job placement and/or training program; to design new and/or modify existing work samples.

Preferred Qualifications
Possession of a CVE (Certified Vocational Evaluator) or CRC (Certified Rehabilitation Counselor) or eligibility to sit for the certification examination preferred. Prefer assessment and/or counseling experience directly related to assisting individuals with diverse disabilities to achieve employment.
Prefer working knowledge of community based assessments and job site training.

Special Requirements
Master’s level transcripts or copy of current certification, if applicable, must accompany the application. Please note that the transcripts must display the date that the degree was awarded.
