Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Biomedical Technician III.

Under moderate or limited supervision, installs, inspects, calibrates, and performs preventive maintenance of all electrical, electronic and pneumatic patient care, diagnostic, monitoring and therapeutic instrumentation throughout the Medical Center specifically the Critical Care areas. These areas include but are not limited to ICUs, ER, PACUs, L&D, and Step Down units. Troubleshoots and repairs/sela,ices a variety of instruments such as: all devices sery,iced by BMET 1 level as well as Telemetry Systems, Multi-parameter Monitors, Electrosurgical Units, Defibrillators, and other devices.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Services and repairs all patient care, diagnostic, monitoring, and therapeutic instruments in the Medical Center in an efficient manner. Responds to calls for service on a timely basis. Troubleshoots equipment and renders equipment functional fixing or replacing appropriate component or circuit board based on the problem; may be required to provide service at the point of use. Services and repairs cables, transducers and accessories. Instructs user on equipment function in case of operator error problems. Verifies proper operation of all device functions, prior to returning the device to service. If the service was rendered at point of use, has user department staff verify current operation. Records all work done on appropriate forms. Informs and consults with the Director on unusual problems or specific hazards.
    • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
    • Attends all required work related training.
    • Perform s incoming inspection on all patient care equipment with at least an electrical safety check, and/or a full acceptance and performance check regardless of ownership. Performs electrical and functional safety checks on all incoming patient care equipment before it is used.Performs functional tests, checks the calibrations on new patient monitors, defibrillators, TelemettT System, ESU, etc., on a regular basis. Records data on appropriate checklist. Reinspects equipment for electrical safety checks at intervals prescribed by departmental policy. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of medical instrumentation, and is aware of clinical applications of equipment and how it is used on patients.
    • Ins tails medical equipment in coordination with the user department and Facilities Management department. Participates in the installation of new patient systems by providing guidance related to expertise. Reinstalls equipment in other areas or carts as determined by the user department's needs.
    • Determines whether equipment is covered by warranty or service contract when repairs are needed. Notifies the Operations Manager of equipment under warranty or contract by providing file manufacturer, model, serial number, and the description of the problem with the equipment.Submits service representatives service reports to the Operations Manager.
    • Performs preventive maintenance (PM) and calibration on above mentioned equipment at intervals prescribed by manufacturers and departmental policies. Locates equipment that is due for PM, functional testing, and calibration: works on fixed equipment such as patient monitors in the room where it is installed. Brings mobile equipment back to the shop for inspection. Carries out preventive maintenance, testing, and calibration procedures strictly to manufacturers specifications and/or departmental written procedures. Refers to departmental manual for policies and procedures, equipment manuals, and test instrument usage instructions to carry out inspections and repairs. Records all service information on the appropriate PM form and properly tags unit.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Biomedical, Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • Minimum of 7 years experience as a biomedical technician in a clinical engineering department is necessary or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $84,187.73 - $85,227.74 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
