Overview:The Lawrenceville School announces an opening for a Biology teacher. We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, collegial individual who wants to work in a collaborative and diverse academic setting with both high school students and adults. The Lawrenceville Science Department encourages students to develop an appreciation of the nature of scientific knowledge and the practice of scientific inquiry, to be curious about the natural world, and to become scientifically-informed citizens.
Responsibilities:

• Teach three to four sections/term; two to three preps per trimester.
• Two seasons of coaching or equivalent co-curricular commitment, including at least one season of interscholastic coaching (or the equivalent).
• Advise five to eight students, and do one evening a week of “House duty,” providing supervision in a student residence from 7-11:30 pm. Although not necessarily starting their first year, faculty who reside in School-provided housing are expected to spend eight years living in one of the residential houses at some point in their career.
• Chaperone a weekend activity (dance, coffee house, etc.) one time a term.

Qualifications:

• Experience teaching core Biology principles at introductory and upper levels.
• Experience teaching Biology using applied and relevant context.
• Experience teaching about the nature of scientific knowledge and scientific inquiry.
• Experience planning and facilitating collaborative, student-centered classes.
• Master’s degree or higher in Biology or related field, or M. Ed. with a bachelor’s in Biology (or related field). Additional background in Chemistry, Environmental Science, and/or Physics a plus.
• A passion for developing student interest in science and scientific inquiry.
• At least three years of high school teaching experience.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral and written) abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently, as needed and appropriate.
• Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Google suite and Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
