Overview:
Do you have excellent customer service skills and previous billing experience then we want you! This position requires a great attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to think critically. In this position you will assist patients with their account activity and work as a team member to ensure reimbursement for services in a timely manner. This is a Full-time 40 hour per week Monday through Friday day shift!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Benefits Coordinator:
  • Complete assigned daily log, maintaining 3 days out consistently.
  • Verify insurance deductible and out of pocket accumulations prior to treatment.
  • Verify cost of treatments have been generated to be reviewed with the patient.
  • Review notes for accurate cost estimates for each individual treatment plan.
  • Review accounts notes for any pending adjustments or balances that need to be set up or set up on payment plan.
  • Communicates with management regarding treatment concerns and patients benefits.
  • Strong ledger knowledge ability to accurately assess insurance payments and compare to verification for accuracy. Ability to identify correct balances and credits on account.
  • Complete cost estimates for CT/PET scans, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and injections, estimating patient responsibility.
  • Willing to travel between offices if necessary.
  • Calculate cost estimate prior to 1st treatment; notify patients of financial responsibility as soon as possible.
  • If patient can’t afford treatment, then explore patient assistance programs/copay cards that patient may qualify for; complete application/financials in a timely manner; follow-up on application/financials on a weekly basis until approved/denied.
  • Meet with patients starting new/changed treatment to review their financial responsibility and have patients sign cost estimate form.
  • Collect all patient amounts due for current service being rendered at time of service.
  • Collect all patient balances immediately; follow designated payment plan guidelines and set-up payment plans if patient can’t pay entire balance immediately.
  • Confidently assist patients with questions regarding charges, payments, balances or credits in a prompt/timely manner.
  • Must be able to type and work on a computer.
  • Performs other duties as requested by supervisor, administrator, or physicians.
Accounts Receivable Specialist:
  • Review patient accounts and/or follow-up on outstanding balances.
  • Contact patients to resolve unpaid accounts. Explains to patients all payments made on their account.
  • Prepares and maintain collection related documents, data and reports in compliance with all State and Federal laws pertaining to healthcare reimbursement. Communicates and maintains approval from treating physician for sending pts to collection.
  • Responds to correspondence and calls from patients and/or third-party organizations regarding outstanding balances.
  • Prepares paperwork for adjustments, posting corrections, charge corrections or refunds for review and approval.


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of all insurance types and benefit structures.
  • Knowledge of Medical office operations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy related drugs, supplies utilized and SNF, LTC, and Hospice in relation to insurance benefits is preferred.
  • Knowledge of government, legal and regulatory provisions related to collection activities.
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, HCPCS coding a plus.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics, Accounting knowledge a plus.
  • Attention to detail is required.
  • Able to be in a seated position, talk on the phone, repetitive keyboard usage and clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.

  • Education and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years medical insurance experience to include knowledge of all insurance types and benefit structure, heavy emphasis on insurance verification.
  • Oncology experience a plus.
  • High School Diploma: additional education preferred.
