General Responsibilities:
This Behavioral Health Clinician position is dedicated to providing a size-inclusive (aka non-diet, weight-inclusive, weight-neutral, Health at Every Size, etc) approach to behavioral health patient care. This position is part of the Size-Inclusive Health Equity work, which sits under Thundermist’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Initiatives and works in collaboration with Behavioral Health. Size-Inclusive Health increases access to equitable care for the community and provides high-quality patient-centered compassionate health care that values each person’s lived experience. The Size-Inclusive Health focuses on the overall health and wellness of patients from an acceptance framework and is informed about the health impact of weight stigma independent of a person’s size. Size-Inclusive Health is a multi-disciplinary team comprised of medical providers, behavioral health providers, and support staff who provide care for people experiencing or exposed to weight stigma regardless of the person’s size, shape, or weight. Together, patients and providers move away from weight as a measure of health and towards body acceptance and health enhancement. They have experience in or interest in developing clinical and cultural competency in caring for people impacted by weight stigma, including subclinical or clinical eating disorders, weight-based discrimination, body image issues, weight/body related anxiety or depression, body/weight bullying or harassment, etc. Due to the innovative nature of Size Inclusive Health competency building is available. This BH Clinician will use an anti-oppression and trauma-informed lens.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Social Work with a minimum of LCSW OR Independent licensure (LICSW, LMHC, LMFT etc)
  • Knowledge or interest in developing clinical and cultural competency regarding weight-stigma, anti-oppression, and trauma informed
  • Experience/comfort with leading groups.
  • Experience with any Size-Inclusive, Health at Every Size®, Weight-Inclusive, Weight-Neutral, Non-Diet framework or understand a similar anti-oppression framework preferred. Training is available if not yet exposed to these frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience using an electronic health record
  • Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team in a medical environment.
  • Eating disorder informed or treatment experience.
  • Bi-lingual/bi-cultural candidates (Spanish/English).

Significant Job Functions:
Clinical & Direct Service Responsibilities

  • Key member of the Size-Inclusive Health team who collaborates with physicians, other care team members (Medical Assistants, Nurses, BH Case Managers, etc.), hospitals, partner agencies, and others involved with a patient’s network of care.
  • Assess clinical emergencies, including risk of suicide and danger to others.
  • Delivers individual, group, couples and or family interventions.
  • Applies knowledge of Psychiatric Diagnosis (DSM 5 & ICD-10) in order to perform and record mental status examination findings and billing codes with assigned patient caseload.
  • Apply knowledge of methodologies of psychotherapy in order to provide individual, group, and family behavioral health counseling
  • Provide referrals to appropriate resources and follows-up as necessary.
  • Obtain progress notes from outside providers involved in patient care.
  • Engage and empower patients to understand their health issues and work closely with patients to take proactive measures that will result in positive outcomes.
  • Work with behavioral health case managers to provide patient navigation assistance and care coordination to Size-Inclusive Health Care patients.
  • Duties can change as program requirements evolve.
Documentation & General Administrative Duties

  • Perform timely and accurate record keeping in accordance with all Health Center requirements.
  • Complete daily activity logs, behavioral health screening & progress notes, encounter forms, reports, evaluations, and insurance documentation as required by pay sources.
  • Complete clear, specific, and behaviorally measurable treatment plans with assigned patients.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with Health Center employees, patients, community agencies and the public.
  • Work in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.
  • Collaborate with team members resolving problems in a constructive manner.
  • Maintain a willingness to listen to and respond to constructive feedback from supervisory personnel.
  • Serve on Health Center committees and workgroups as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Effort/ Environment:
  • This position is currently remote phone/video with a move to hybrid and office work as needed.
  • Moderate physical activity is required: sitting, standing, walking, and lifting. Travel to off-site meetings and other program sites as needed.
  • General office or remote office environment: manual dexterity needed for keyboard work, writing and phone calls.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Electronic Health Records, computers and other technology and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Use of technology for home monitoring, telemedicine, and other devices, as needed.
Work Schedule Demands:
  • Full-time. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Communication Skills:
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong working knowledge of health literacy skills (e.g. Teach Back)
  • Ability to relate to patients and build trusting relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, patients, family/care givers, and partner agencies.
