JOB DESCRIPTION

The Before and After School Program Assistant is a direct-care provider for before and after school programming in the St. Louis Elementary School region, executing programs in alignment with Unleashing Potential’s mission and goals. This position provides educational enrichment and character-building programming to children at one of our partner schools, and conducts activities that cultivate growth, not only academically, but with a holistic approach. The ideal candidate is nurturing, passionate about supporting youth, dependable, and acts with integrity.

Our Before and After School programs partner with local school districts to provide quality educational experiences. Currently, we serve students in the Ferguson/Florissant, St. Louis City, and University City school districts.

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 18 years of age;
  • Available to work during the hours of 7AM - 9AM and/or 3PM - 6PM;
  • The ability to reliably travel between multiple school sites, as necessary.

Employment in this position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining satisfactory:

  • Background checks: Annual Family Care Registry (FCSR); Fingerprint-based state federal criminal history records check
  • E-verify;
  • Education Verification;

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements after school programming under the supervision of the Site Manager, and gives input into the creation of youth programming through daily, direct interaction in the classroom with children.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of lesson plans, and prepares for daily activities.
  • Facilitates a variety of program components, including evidence-based curricula containing character education, STEAM (Science, Technology, Arts, and Math), life skills, academic, and nutrition and physical fitness activities for school-aged children.
  • Actively participates and facilitates regular group activities, as well as field trips and special events for children.
  • Provides on-site supervision of children, serves as a primary contact for students, and works to build positive relationships with all children and parents.
  • Ensures the safety of children, while maintaining a fun and engaging atmosphere, and is proactive about addressing student behavioral issues, or other concerns.
  • May provide individual tutoring to children.
  • Submits weekly programmatic reports.
  • Distributes snacks and meals.
  • Acts in a professional manner at all times and maintains appropriate boundaries with children, families, and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two or more years’ experience in programming with school-aged children; or AA degree in Elementary Education, or related field preferred;
  • Strong math, reading, spelling, and comprehension skills necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Performs functions in high energy, classroom and school environment (locations may vary);
  • Frequent interruptions;
  • Sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time, bending, kneeling, talking, eye strain, and walking;
  • The ability to lift 10 pounds, or 25/50 pounds with assistance
  • Moderate to high noise levels.
