JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective

Tellers receive and pay out money, as well as accurately keep records of money and negotiable instruments involved in a financial institution’s various transactions. Tellers meet the needs of customers by providing quality service. Quality service includes responding to customer inquiries via telephone and face-to-face meetings.

This position is for a highly motivated individual willing to work hard and accept new challenges with an ability to multi-task and work with numbers.

Essential Functions

1. Answer the telephone in a courteous manner and direct the caller to the appropriate person.

2. Assist customers with routine account-related requests such as: funds transfers, automatic funds transfers (AFTs), stop payments, inquiries about bank deposit products and service charges, inquiries about ATM and debit card usage and limits, inquiries about checking and savings accounts transactions, inquiries about funds availability, and check verification requests by third parties.

3. Research and resolve customer problems, acting as the customer liaison between other bank departments when necessary.

4. Research customer questions regarding electronic funds transfers and initiate “Reg E” disputes when appropriate, including the completion of all necessary documents and affidavits.

5. Cross-sell bank products and services based on customer needs in accordance with the banks’ program standards.

6. Receive checking and savings deposits: verify cash and endorsements, receive proper identification for cash back and issue receipts of deposit.

7. Examine checks deposited and determine proper funds availability based on regulation requirements and complete hold notices.

8. Process savings withdrawals. Cash checks: verify endorsement, receive proper identification and ensure validity.

9. Identify counterfeit currency.

10. Answer basic customer inquiries regarding interest rates, service charges and account histories while complying with disclosure requirements, regulations and consumer privacy policies.

11. Print and mail customer statements.

12. Process customer mailings using the postage meter.

13. Refer customers to the proper department for issues that cannot be resolved at the teller line.

14. Fill change orders

15. Count and roll loose coins.

16. Issue personal money orders and cashier’s checks, accept orders and payment for U.S. Savings Bonds.

17. Ensure teller station is properly supplied.

18. Balance drawer daily, including periodic batching of cashed checks.

19. Process cash advances, redeem U.S. Savings Bonds.

20. Maintain appropriate currency logs.

21. Follow all bank policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets. This position requires bending, stooping or standing as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, approximately
7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with some hours personalized to meet scheduling needs.

Travel

Travel to the highway branch (approximately 1 mile) may be required.

Required Education and Experience

1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Customer service experience.
3. Experience in MS Word and MS Excel.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Customer service experience.
2. Previous cash handling experience.
3. Deposit bank experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

1. Multi-lingual capabilities to include Spanish are a plus.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

1. Criminal and driving history background check.
2. Credit history background check.
