Eddie’s Bakery Department is home to hundreds of baked-in-house sweets, locally-made treats, and high-quality breads, breakfast items, and baked goods. As a Bakery Department Head at the N> Charles Street Store, your dependable, can-do work ethic and friendly, customer-focused manner will guide and lead the Bakery Department’s success in selling product, creating delightful and interesting bakery treats, while delivering top-notch service.

The Bakery Department Manager is responsible for effectively directing and supervising all functions and activities of the Bakery Department and its associates to achieve the department’s goals (i.e. sales, production, profitability, customer service, and employee engagement). The Bakery Department Head will ensure the daily success of the bakery operations and lead the bakery team in achieving new goals and overcoming obstacles. This position must communicate and work together with all members of the bakery team, store management, and ownership to ensure that everyone is kept in the know and engaged in their work. This position reports to the Store Manager and play a critical role within the culinary management team.

CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Greet each customer in a polite, friendly, and helpful manner and begin the conversation with “My name is ______and how may I help you?”

· Engage each customer fully, efficiently, and professionally in order to exceed the customer’s expectations.

· Answer all customer questions honestly and respectfully, making suggestions/recommendations to customers regarding department products.

· Prioritize customer special requests and take necessary steps to ensure customer expectations are exceeded.

· Maintain a neat and clean appearance at all times in accord with Eddie’s requirements.

· Thank each customer for shopping at Eddie’s of Roland Park.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Emphasize to all department employees that customer service is their primary responsibility.

· Reinforce to all department employees that each customer is Eddie’s most important customer.

· Establish and maintain food handling and hygiene standards and procedures for all department employees.

· Manage the daily operation of the department employees.

· Supervise all department employees.

· Train department employees to carry out daily responsibilities according to their individual job assignment and department procedures.

· Responsible for setting daily priorities for department procedures.

· Establish and maintain standard department procedures.

· Prepare weekly work schedule.

· Interview prospective department employees and make hire/not hire recommendations to store manager.

· Formally evaluate each department employee on or about the anniversary of their start date according to Eddie’s policies and procedures.

· Meet individually with department employee as needed regarding on-the- job performance, and discuss/follow up with store manager and/or H.R.

· Make recommendation(s) to store manager regarding the promotion or termination of department employees.

· Attend and participate in department manager meetings.

· Advise store manager of ideas, suggestions, recommendations to increase department profitability and/ or to improve/ upgrade overall store performance.

· Responsible for teaching all department employees to correctly compute tare weight (including shrink factor where appropriate according to State of Maryland Department of Weights and Measures) based on product wrap, bag, or box.

· Inventory department product quarterly in accord with Eddie’s store policies and procedures.

· Sample vendor products for quality, compare vendor prices, and solicit feedback regarding the quality of vendor products.

· Determine vendors from whom to order product.

· Determine the variety and quantities of product to be ordered (daily, weekly, etc.)

· Maintain holiday product records and files yearly.

· Complete other duties as assigned by store manager.

OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Responsible for department sales and profit.

· Determine pricing for department products.

· Check – in product deliveries and sign invoices.

· Prepare, record, process, and maintain required department paperwork according to department/ Eddie’s procedures.

· Responsible for quality and consistency of incoming Charles Street products (Roland Avenue department manager only).

· Consult with department manager at other store to ensure consistency of pricing and product.

· Responsible for ensuring that incoming product from Charles Street arrives on time (Roland Avenue department manager only).

· Determine daily what department products meet Eddie’s standards and what products will be returned.

· Responsible for the quality control of all department products.

· Supervise daily the total setting, resetting, arranging, and maintenance of product in cases and on shelves according to department procedures.

· Supervise daily all baking done on premises.

· Ensure that all displayed products are fresh, rotated and neatly stacked and arranges throughout each business day according to department procedures.

· Carry out all department responsibilities as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· Bakery Production staff, and

· Bakery Front End staff.

Qualifications:

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses:

· High school diploma or equivalent,

· 5+ years of experience in a food service management position, and

· Culinary school diploma or equivalent is desired.

Experience:

· Prior commercial bakery experience (5+ years),

· Prior commercial bakery department leadership experience desired,

· Prior retail experience desirable.

· Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills,

· A desire to create exceptional goods & services for our guests and team members,

· Proven experience overseeing and managing bakery operations,

· Ability to remain productive when pulled in many different directions,

· Proven leadership and supervisory skills,

· Excellent communication skills with customers, vendors, leadership, and associates.
