The role you’ll contribute:

The AVP of Revenue Cycle directly reports to the VP/Chief Financial Officer and has responsibility and accountability for providing the leadership necessary to set and support execution of the strategic direction and success of the organization's revenue cycle support functions, including but not limited to Project Management, Analytics, Quality Audit/Training/Education, and Business Analysts/System SMEs teams for Acute Operations, as well as Automation, Vendor Management, and Revenue Cycle Finance/Controller teams for both Acute Operations and the Physician Enterprise. They will also be expected to partner with the other corporate Revenue Cycle leaders and the Divisional Revenue Cycle Officers to improve the execution of above stated support functions, as well as to support other Revenue Cycle strategic priorities. The ED of PI and Business Support will have experience working in a large complex, matrix organization, and will have proven executive leadership experience and a demonstrated track record of leading a large peer system with responsibilities and oversight of large-scale transformations and performance improvement results. The ability to have a significant impact on standardizing and improving operations to align with leading practices will be critical to this role.

  • Responsible for overseeing the following Revenue Cycle support functional areas: Project Management, Analytics, Quality Audit/Training/Education, Business Analysts/System SMEs, within Acute Operations, as well as Automation, Vendor Management, and Revenue Cycle Finance/Controller teams for both Acute Operations and the Physician Enterprise
  • Responsible for ensuring alignment of individual support functional areas with the broader Revenue Cycle and enterprise strategic objectives
  • Responsible for overseeing standardization, accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of the above stated revenue cycle support functions to align with industry best practices
  • Works with other corporate revenue cycle leaders to establish realistic and innovative internal SLAs for relevant support functions; sets clear, compelling goals for team leaders, and holds them accountable for performance, cultivating the climate for open and frequent communication
  • Acts as a main point of escalation for key issues and decisions related to the above stated revenue cycle support functions, and coaches’ teams to properly raise and efficiently resolve issues
  • Provides guidance and support to functional leadership responsible for personnel management, establishing and executing corporate policies, goals & objectives, and establishing departmental administrative decisions and budget
  • Collaborates with the other corporate Revenue Cycle leaders and the Divisional Revenue Cycle Officers to optimize the operations within the above stated support functions, based on current state pain points and priorities for each Division and Revenue Cycle functional area
  • Actively participates in Corporate and Divisional Committee meetings, and socializes key updates and takeaways with the appropriate stakeholders Project Management functional area oversight:
  • Oversees the Project Management team to ensure forecasted timelines and project objective are met, and best practice project management methodologies and processes are adopted
  • Facilitates collaboration with departments outside of Revenue Cycle, e.g., IT, Finance, Managed Care, etc. to support the execution of Revenue Cycle initiatives
  • Establishes processes and tools to ensure transparency on project status, including progress, challenges, and risks, for the entire project portfolio
  • Monitor the pipeline of strategic projects where Project Management resources would be required, to appropriately evaluate team capacity and potential backlog Quality Audit/Training /Education functional area oversight:
  • Oversees the Quality Audit/Training/Education team to ensure quality audit related policies and procedures are standardized, consistently enforced, and aligned with leading practices
  • Establishes/optimizes processes to ensure the knowledge and skills gap identified through ongoing quality audits are addressed in education and training activities
  • Identifies and escalates gaps in technology and processes related to quality audit and education activities, and supports the development of prevention and mitigation practices

Automation functional area oversight:

  • Oversees the identification, prioritization, and execution of automation opportunities related to Revenue Cycle operations across the enterprise
  • Collaborates with the Automation team to maintain an inventory of use cases, develops business cases to quantify impact of automation projects, and supports prioritization of use cases development
  • Monitors the performance of automation solutions, and triages issues as they arise
  • Facilitates collaboration between the Automation team and Business Analysts / System SMEs to develop Process Design Documents (PDDs) and System Control Diagrams (SCDs)
  • Establishes metrics to track the impact of each automation initiative in collaboration with the Analytics team
  • Follows, shares, and incorporates automation related market innovation and trends in alignment with leading revenue cycle practices Vendor Management functional area oversight:
  • Oversees the Vendor Management team to ensure vendor specific Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met and best practices in vendor management processes (e.g., inventory reconciliation, invoice review, contract management, vendor performance management) are adopted
  • Drives standardization in Revenue Cycle vendor scope and vendor management processes across the enterprise
  • Monitors vendor performance trends, and works with the vendor management team, as well as other revenue cycle leaders as needed, to resolve vendor issues as they arise
  • Responsible for identifying vendor contract consolidation and/or renegotiation opportunities to improve cost efficiency Revenue Cycle Finance/Controller functional area oversight:
  • Oversees corporate revenue cycle financial activities, including but not limited to financial trending and projection, cost allocation, and budgeting
  • Facilitates collaboration between the regional/divisional controllers and corporate Revenue Cycle controllers to ensure cost allocation and budgets for Revenue Cycle departments are aligned
  • Identifies and escalates gaps in financial reporting and risk management processes, and supports the development of prevention and mitigation practices Analytics functional area oversight:
  • Oversees the Analytics team to develop and maintain data analytics and reporting tools that enables early detection of operational risks as well as performance gaps, and supports data-driven decision making for Revenue Cycle leaders at all levels across the enterprise
  • Identifies opportunities to improve the standardization, efficiency, and effectiveness of the reporting processes to support AdventHealth's transformation goals
  • Understands the resource requirement for the Analytics teams from planned strategic projects and other system initiatives, and facilitates project prioritization as needed Business Analyst/System SMEs functional area oversight:
  • Oversees the Business Analyst/System SMEs team to translate business requirements to system technical requirements, in collaboration with Analytics, Automation, and the appropriate IT teams
  • Understands interdependencies and overlap among ongoing projects and initiatives, and assigns appropriate functional and system SME resources to maximize synergy
  • Monitors the pipeline of strategic projects where Business Analyst / System SME resources would be required, to appropriately evaluate team capacity and potential backlog

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE STRONGLY PREFERRED:

  • Broad understanding and experience within hospital and physician operations in an integrated health system

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Working knowledge of analytic tools such as Qlikview, PowerBI, or other similar tools
  • Robotic Processing Automation working knowledge and skills
Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Master's degree in finance, business, or health administration
  • Background in change management and project management
  • 10+ years’ experience

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Revenue Cycle certifications preferred, such as the Certification in Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP)
  • Certified Manager of Patient Accounts (CMPA)
  • Certified Patient Access Management (CPAM)
  • Certification in Healthcare Financial Management Association areas
  • Project Management skills and / or certifications
  • Epic EMR certifications in related areas
  • Six Sigma certification

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes scheduling, staffing, coaching, and mentoring of staff that report to this position. In addition, this position is responsible for the below responsibilities:

  • Develops, communicates, and enforces corporate policies and procedures consistent with organization and governmental standards of compliance.
  • Mentors and provides direction to functional leaders to drive organizational success and maintain a productive working environment.
  • Develops and maintains liaisons with local, state, and federal resources along with professional organizations.
  • Provides leadership for corporate committees and assigned task forces.
  • Responsible for reporting and operations relative to PI and Business Support functions and outcomes to the Revenue Management Council or designated corporate committee.
  • Promotes the mission of AdventHealth in all interactions
