General Statement

The Audiovisual Equipment Technician I is responsible for the general support of audiovisual technology used at the college. This includes set up of equipment for classroom and event usage; preventive maintenance and minor repairs; operating audiovisual equipment; scheduling the use of audiovisual equipment; requisitioning supplies; and performing related work as required.


Supervision Received

Reports to the Media Supervisor and the Director of IT Services.


Supervision Exercised

Supervises part-time media assistants, co-op students and work study students.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates audiovisual/multimedia equipment such as projectors, TV/DVD, speakers, microphones, amplifiers and sound mixers for classes and presentations.
  • Install audiovisual/multimedia equipment to classrooms and meeting rooms.
  • Video record and photograph events and presentations.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repair of audiovisual equipment and decides if equipment should be repaired or replaced.
  • Support AV needs of QCC satellite locations and off campus QCC events.
  • Maintains a schedule for the use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Gives instructions on the use, maintenance and repair of audiovisual equipment and methods for making audiovisual presentations or productions.
  • Contacts vendors to arrange for calibration or repair of equipment.
  • Duplicates/Converts both audio and video media.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Actively supports the teaching and learning process; practicing honesty and integrity in and out of the classroom; strives to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications

  • One year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical experience in the repair and/or maintenance of audiovisual equipment including projectors, tape recorders, videotape devices, phonographic equipment, etc. or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. An Associate's or higher degree with a major in electronics or electrical engineering may be substituted for the required experience.*

II. A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade or technical school above the high school level with a major in electronics or electricity may be substituted for the required experience.*

  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
  • Experience using and operating audiovisual/multimedia equipment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Operating Systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with capturing/editing video and/or photo.
  • Customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or higher degree
  • Experience in an academic environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
