The Bush School’s athletic program works within the rules of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) to provide athletic opportunities and competition for students of all gender identities. While most sports are offered separately for boys and girls, the Athletic Department staff is committed to working collaboratively with each participant to determine options that best suit each student-athlete’s journey.

Depending on the coaching position, a coach may work under the guidance of the Athletics Department, a head coach, and/or a coaching staff, to plan and execute team practices, coach all scheduled games, assist with overseeing inventory of sports equipment and uniforms, and drive the team to away games on a school vehicle. The reporting structure is dependent on the specific coaching position available.

While other duties may be assigned, qualified coaching candidates will be able to manage the following key responsibilities and tasks:

Provide positive, safe, challenging, and supportive experience for participants
Identify, develop, and apply age and developmentally appropriate coaching methods
Develop and implement practice plans and routines
Communicate team and program related information to coaching staff, athletes and parents/guardians effectively and promptly

Safe driving record that meets school standards
Ability to work and connect with people
Enthusiasm to contribute, grow, and develop as a member of the Blazers Athletics Department Team
Outstanding communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Compensation:
Coaching stipends are paid in monthly installments during the applicable season and vary based experience, as well as team and coaching position factors.
Additional pay is available for coaches who drive their teams to and from practices and/or contests.
Additional benefits include access to professional development funds and coaching apparel.

Additional Requirements:
Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings
Meet the school’s COVID vaccination requirements. The Bush School is committed to providing a safe environment and campus for students, employees and visitors alike. In support of this commitment, candidates who are invited to campus during the hiring process will be required to provide proof of their full COVID-19 vaccination* to the school’s Main Office, prior to attending their on-campus appointment. Newly hired employees shall provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or obtain school approval of a religious or medical exemption, prior to being allowed to work at The Bush School. Requests for a COVID-19 vaccination accommodation due to medical or religious reasons are made to the school’s Director of Human Resources.
