POSITION SUMMARY

:
Manage the on-going sustainability initiatives and work with the Vice President, Sustainability to implement, manage, and report on programs that work to meet JBG SMITH’s sustainability goals. Drive impact and results based on strategic sustainability plans and help shape improvements and programs that achieve a deep level of integrated sustainability and ESG across our business units in a value-add manner.

Work with constituents throughout the company including Asset Management, Development, Investments, Property Management, Operations, Engineering, and Leasing. Interact with Human Resources and Legal to support JBG SMITH’s social and governance factors in partnership with the company’s sustainability reporting efforts.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

:
  • Coordinate with Asset and teams to implement strategic objectives.
  • Handle existing Portfolio Project LEED registrations account management.
  • Coordinate with ENERGYSTAR Portfolio Manager.
  • Process leasing requests for information on buildings sustainability features.
  • Aggregate portfolio-wide data for corporate sustainability reporting.
  • Recommend budgets for project level sustainability expenses.
  • Coordinate local utility rebates (DC SEU Custom Program).
  • Participate in tenant engagement meetings with PM Teams.
  • Educate internal development team on topics relevant to energy and water use reduction and embodied carbon reduction.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with asset management team.
  • Work with the Washington Housing Authority (WHI) team to integrate sustainability in Impact Investing.
  • Support third party WHI management business as needed.
  • Assist with annual ESG reporting including assurance.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED (REQUIREMENTS)

:
  • Bachelor’s degree (MBA or master’s in Real Estate, Sustainability, Economics, Public Policy, or Finance preferred) and 5+ years of related experience with strong knowledge of building science and development.
  • Experience in real estate development and finance with strong financial and entrepreneurial skills.
  • Familiarity with existing and emerging energy efficiency and sustainability technologies, e.g., LEED AP, Energy Star, and Fitwel certification systems.
  • Ability to work independently and interact vertically and horizontally across the company.
  • Knowledge of real estate fundamentals including the pro-forma, design, financing, permitting, construction, and project management processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail, confidentiality, integrity, and the ability to maintain a high level of professionalism in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, identify emerging issues, analyze potential impact, and translate research, ideals, and insights into viable recommendations for action.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly simulate data to help inform teams and use data to develop asset level business plans.
