What to Expect...

Participates in scientific activities and initiatives in support of global Laboratory Operations. Performs complex trouble-shooting and problem-solving, supporting Lab Operations to ensure smooth transition of assays into production. Participates in developing/identifying new strategies, techniques and instrumentation for the development of new ventures in the scientific area of expertise for CLS global Laboratory Operations.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Performs complex troubleshooting and assists senior scientists in leading initiatives to solve challenging scientific problems with assays or instrumentation.

  • Performs new assay and technology validations under the direction of more senior scientific staff. May participate in respective documentation.

  • Applies and interprets scientific theories, concepts, techniques and regulatory requirements in clinical studies in partnership with more senior scientific staff.

  • Provides consultation to scientific and operational staff on technical issues.

  • Responds to unscheduled deadlines, client needs, crises, etc. without neglecting other duties.

  • Assists with regular monitoring and evaluation of clinical assays to ensure effective scientific performance.

  • May provide technical training for operational staff.

  • Provides assay specific technical/scientific consultation to departments outside the lab (i.e., Project Management) as requested.

  • Assists in managing scientific vendor and relationships to troubleshoot issues and improve capabilities.

  • Assists in managing internal partners (such as IT) in the establishment of new instrumentation and assays.

  • Regularly reads literature related to scientific area of expertise to remain current in knowledge.

Experience:
Required:

  • 1-2 years relevant industry experience plus a BA or BS within scientific area of expertise. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for education requirements above.

  • Highly skilled in conducting research, data interpretation, and writing reports.

  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory automation, system software, Microsoft applications and laboratory statistics.

  • Effective communication skills with technical staff, business development staff, peers and clients.

  • Attention to detail and interpretation of scientific data.

  • Demonstrated problem prevention, detection and resolution.

Education/Qualifications/Certifications and Licenses
Required:

  • BA or BS in scientific area of expertise.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is done in a laboratory environment.

  • May work with potentially hazardous substances.

  • Mandatory immunization and screening is required.

Special Factors:

  • Overtime and weekend work as required.
