Job Description

Position Summary: This position will lead the church in cooperation with the Associate Pastor for Discipleship in developing and implementing a comprehensive program of ministry for all students sixth grade through college. This minister will work through appropriate staff, the Student Partnership Committee, volunteer leaders, and parents to carry out this ministry.

Ministry Purpose: To bring youth to Jesus Christ by evangelism; to connect youth with Christian leaders and other Christian students; to help youth grow in their faith through discipleship; to challenge youth to find their own ministry and area of service, and to glorify God with their lives.

Hours Requirement: Full-Time Exempt (minimum of 40 hours/week)

Days Requirement: Sundays – Thursdays (others as needed)

Time Preferences: Sundays morning and evening worship services and programing Mondays 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Tuesdays 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Wednesdays 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. (8 hours throughout this day)

Thursdays 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Weekends as needed

* Flexibility is expected as ministry often takes a Pastor away from the office or alters this schedule to allow for attendance at student activities such as football games, graduations, recitals, etc.

Supervised by: This position is under the direction of the Senior Pastor and may be supervised by the Associate Pastor for Discipleship.

Skills Required:

· Biblical and theological conviction based upon the Baptist Faith and Message, usually developed through seminary training.

· Ability and desire to lead people into a personal relationship with Christ and to help people grow closer to God in general and specifically through student ministry.

· Strong interpersonal relational skills for recruiting, training and leading teams in student ministry as well as interacting with the congregation in general.

· Ability to cast vision to and partner with the Student Ministry Partnership Committee.

· Ability to evaluate and make recommendations to other ministry areas as they impact student ministry.

Job Description:

· Develop a climate that is safe, supportive, and cultivates spiritual growth for students.

· Develop objectives for the student ministry that are consistent with the Church's vision and overall strategic plan.

· Prepare, coordinate, and implement an annual student ministry budget proposal, and administer that budget as approved by the Stewardship committee.

· Coordinate, partner with and lead the Student Ministry Partnership Committee, which seeks to manage ministry experiences for grades six through college.

· Direct the teaching programs (including curriculum oversight) of the student division (Bible Fellowships, Discipleship Training, etc.) in cooperation with other leaders.

· Lead and/or teach students during the week of Vacation Bible School, in coordination with the Associate Minister for Children.

· Attend and contribute to all meetings, including Leadership Council, staff and minister’s meetings, helping MVBC fulfill the vision and mission of the church.

· Provide Biblically-based, motivating and inspiriting teaching on a regular basis and serve as a Christian role model to students.

· Assess student ministry needs and develop programs, policies and procedures, and activities to meet those needs.

· Lead the search for student ministry interns for the summer months, including preparing the job description, interviewing and supervising.

· Develop lay leaders who can love, teach, and lead students effectively in small group or one-on-one settings.

· Coordinate the background checks for all adult leaders in the student ministry.

· Engage parents and families in the developing growth of their student’s faith.

· Equip parents with necessary tools to lead their student/family.

· Lead a Biblically-based ministry to college-age students to help them worship God, grow in their faith, and stay engaged with the church.

· Provide pastoral ministry in hospital visits, funerals and weddings as needed.

· Other duties as assigned.
