The Wellness Resource Center provides health promotion, prevention and recovery-based programs and services for undergraduate and graduate/professional students on a large, diverse university campus. Situated within Student Health and Well-Being, we work closely with Counseling Center and Student Health Center professionals to provide a wide range of opportunities for students to assess their well-being, develop effective strategies, and think critically, so they can enjoy thriving well-being. Our staff collaborate with campus partners, student organizations and students to develop and implement effective programs and services.

Summary

The University of Missouri’s Division of Student Affairs seeks a dynamic and passionate leader with expertise in public health and health promotion to lead the Wellness Resource Center (WRC). Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Health & Well-Being, this position will lead the implementation of a comprehensive health promotion program that improves the health and well-being of Mizzou students.

Essential Functions

  • Leads, supervises, develops and evaluates a team of health promotion and wellness professionals, currently including a Substance Abuse Prevention and Education Coordinator, an Outreach and Student Engagement Coordinator, a Health Educator and a Student Support Specialist. Responsibilities include: assessing progress on assignments, evaluating staff performance, and developing professional and personal goals with staff.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates theory-based and evidence-informed health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services based on campus needs and priorities. Includes facilitating the creation of a strategic plan that aligns with Student Affairs and Student Health & Well-Being.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to WRC team including vision, mission, goals, policies, and procedures of the department.
  • Provide leadership to enhance the professional growth of our student staff, peer educators, interns, graduate students, and practicum students.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships and encourages collaboration with campus colleagues and key stakeholders, including community partners, to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health for students. This includes leading and supporting health-related coalitions.
  • Works collaboratively with other campus partners and key stakeholders to provide programming and support to benefit student health and well-being.
  • Collaborates with Missouri Partners in Prevention to identify emerging trends, to adapt best practices and to ensure the WRC is delivering effective programs that meet students’ needs.
  • Leads the efforts of the Wellness Resource Center to further operationalize the integration of services and programs with the other units in Student Health & Well-Being: the MU Counseling Center and the Student Health Center.
  • Works closely with the assigned Division of Student Affairs Business Administration Manager and the Executive Director of Student Health & Well-Being to monitor and manage the WRC budget.
  • Works closely with the Executive Director and the Division of Student Affairs Marketing and Communications staff to develop and execute a communication plan for the department.
  • Works with the Division of Student Affairs Assessment staff to ensure that rigorous and appropriate project evaluation and assessment plans and activities are in place, including the development and implementation of campus-wide assessments to determine health needs, assets, and priorities.
  • Collaborates with and incorporates underrepresented and historically marginalized diverse populations into health promotion planning processes to advance equity.
  • Develops, implements, and advocates for campus policies that advance and promote health and well-being utilizing a “Health in All Policies” approach.
  • Supports and guides the WRC team to actively participate in professional organizations; examples include serving in leadership roles, presenting at regional and national conferences, serving on committees, and producing publications.

Salary


Range: $63,860 - $110,000 per year

Grade: GGS 12

Shift


Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications


A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health, health promotion, health education, or related field
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH) or (M)CHES/CPH eligible
  • Six or more years of progressive responsibility in health promotion or related field
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • At least two years of experience directly supervising professional staff
  • Demonstrated effective management and supervision of professional staff including evaluation, goal setting, and providing professional development opportunities for staff
  • Experience guiding a team to develop evidence-informed health promotion programs/initiatives that meet the needs of a college campus population
  • Experience leading coalitions or collaborating with individuals and organizations
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and experience with promoting inclusive excellence
  • Enthusiastic support for, and demonstrated experience in, integrated and holistic campus health and well-being program and service provision, including an understanding of and appreciation for the intersection between clinical health, mental health services, and wellness/health promotion
  • Active participation in professional organizations in a leadership capacity; examples include presenting at regional and national conferences, serving on committees, and producing publications
  • Experience conducting literature reviews, needs assessments, and program evaluations; experience interpreting findings and developing plans to programmatically and strategically respond to the findings
  • Demonstrated skills in performing the key duties in the job description
