Position Summary:
This position manages volunteers interested in fundraising for programs across the University, its Colleges, and units (approx. 20-25), while continuing to build relationships with non-volunteer leadership donors and soliciting their financial support of the Annual Fund to achieve annual donor and revenue goals. This position creates annual, data-based goals for the Leadership Circle, and tracks progress towards those goals.

This position works closely across all parts of the Advancement team to create opportunities for the Annual Fund's work to create mutually beneficial results, including Donor Relations, University Relations and Major Gifts. The successful candidate will be comfortable identifying, recruiting, and leading fundraising volunteers, training them to solicit financial support for the annual fund, reporting quantitative and qualitative data on these programs. They will identify new volunteer leadership, grow the diversity of all volunteers, and ensure the success of the volunteers' fundraising efforts.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Volunteer Management (60%)
  • Work closely with Alumni and Parent Engagement and other campus partners to recruit and build relationships with a diverse volunteer base. Set committee goals for recruitment and activity that are connected to meeting the goals of the Annual Fund overall.
  • Train volunteers, educating them on the value of Annual Fund support. Ensure volunteers are passionate and knowledgeable advocates for Willamette students. Build meaningful connections with these individuals.
  • Identify appropriate peers for volunteers to solicit. Help to determine ask amounts for volunteer leaders, and implement a strategy that enables volunteers' success. Serve as a personal resource to volunteers, solidifying their relationship to Willamette.
  • Respond to volunteer feedback and recommendations with strategic insight. Identify and put in motion changes to keep programs on track to meet goals.
  • Update databases to monitor, discern and track the appropriate activities. Identify points of personal feedback that indicate trends that will impact Annual Fund work.
  • Support and guide committee leadership to create meaningful, effective committee goals and experiences that inspire passion and enthusiasm from committee members.



Leadership Circle Annual Fund Solicitation and Oversight (40%)
  • At the start of the fiscal year, conduct a feasibility analysis, including the identification of past, current, and potential donors at the $1,000+ level to set goals for the Leadership Circle levels and support the overall Annual Fund program donor and revenue goals.
  • Throughout the year, review open pledges, monitor and manage overlapping commitments to the Annual Fund and the campaign, and prepare monthly reports on solicitation status and progress towards year goals.
  • Solicit donors at or above the $1,000 level that are not being asked by volunteers or other staff. Solicitation activities can range from virtual to phone to in-person visits.
  • Document all appropriate communications and solicitations in the database.
  • Throughout the year, ensure that donors are being appropriately thanked and updated about the impact of their gifts.
  • At the close of the fiscal year, conduct the Annual Review process of all donors. Identify those likely to benefit from a relationship with a major gift officer.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate specific strategies to increase membership, including approaches for recognition to ensure strong retention, along with effective marketing of societies for upgrades and acquisition. Work proactively with partners to promote the value of the Leadership Circle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent ability to manage projects and deadlines,
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; outstanding judgment in finding creative ways to relate to others with diverse backgrounds
  • Able to adapt quickly, while maintaining the integrity of relationships with volunteers and donors alike.
  • Strong initiative, high energy-level, and demonstrated ability to lead and motivate people are essential, self-motivated by goals.
  • Experience in personally soliciting gifts, and ability to travel for in person solicitation meetings
  • Proven experience in recruiting, managing, training, leading, and stewarding volunteer fundraising committees to reach their full potential and to achieve fundraising goals
  • Knowledge of modern data management practices and techniques, including models of analysis that lead to effective decision making on behalf of the program
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully and effectively with a wide range of constituents and manage complex relationship; proven collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Ability to maintain confidential information, navigate relationships with finesse, and work to the highest ethical standards as outlined by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for signature events and activities including Alumni Reunion Weekend.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to plan ahead, think strategically, and manage multiple projects and deadlines; ability to remain calm and level-headed under pressure

Preferred Qualifications
  • Higher education development experience is preferred
  • Experience in soliciting financial support
  • Knowledge of Excel and CRM database management systems preferred
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of development and fundraising with an understanding of individual giving programs, such as direct mail, phone-a-thon and personal solicitation programs is preferred

Salary: $54,500
