Partners for Rural Impact (PRI) is a newly formed nonprofit organization that provides deep community support for youth and their families and works to ensure success for young people from cradle to career. Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Associate Director (AD) works to launch new programs, preserve existing grants, and assist in the close-out of ending grants. The Associate Director will maintain a working knowledge of programs and grants within the Director's portfolio by monitoring each project's staffing structure, programming strategies, budgets, assessment measures, and risk management procedures. Through collaboration with the Director, the AD will work to ensure Project Directors have the capacity, knowledge, skills, and resources to direct the programs and/or grants, and ensure compliance within all human resources, financial, data collection, and operational business protocols; and build a culture of results-based accountability within the team and within each grant. This position leads and operates with the goal that All Rural Students Succeed.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director of Programs to assist in the launch of new programs, preserve existing programs, and assist in the close-out of ending grants
  • Maintain knowledge of all programs and grants within the Director of Programs' portfolio; provide budget monitoring, record-keeping, reporting, and assessment measures
  • Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of programs and offices
  • Collaborate with each Project Director and Program Associate to provide capacity, knowledge, and resources for effective program/grant management
  • Assist with staff training and development initiatives
  • Collaborate with the Place-Based-Partnership Innovation & Excellence division to support and maintain program alignment, continuous improvement, and the use of evidence-based strategies and practices

Position Location and Schedule

The Associate Director of Programs will be located primarily in Appalachia Kentucky, but may be considered for hybrid work with local, state, and sometimes national travel required.


Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm with in-office and/or hybrid work a possibility. Because of the nature of the responsibility to schools, partners, funders, and to the service region, individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening and/or weekend hours.


Minimum Requirements


Education required to ensure success in this position:

Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred


Experience required to ensure success in this position:

Background in data assessment to develop strategies to improve student outcomes

Experience in federal grant management, budget management, supervision, and managing daily operations of grant programs

Experience with results-based framework for program implementation


Special skills, knowledge and abilities:

Proficiency in data collection, analysis and planning

Capacity to multi-task and achieve deadlines

Familiarity with the full-services community school model

Exceptional oral and written communication skills

Demonstrated proficiency with the financial management of grant funds

Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, including data processing and financial spreadsheets

A commitment to students from diverse economic, social, and cultural backgrounds


License, certification, or registration necessary:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Successfully complete pre-employment background check

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to work in a high energy office
  • Ability to accurately communicate and exchange information with partners, stakeholders, and/or meeting participants
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to travel independently by car and plane regionally and nationally
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to operate motor vehicle

Environmental conditions:

  • Work in a fast-paced setting with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities
  • Work primarily in an office setting
  • Periodic travel to meetings and/or partner program sites
