The Associate Director, Capital Projects, reporting to the Sr. Director of Engineering, will be responsible for assisting in the management of capital projects and day-to-day operations of AskBio facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience in Lab facility design, construction experience, and a background in either mechanical or electrical engineering with prior biotech expertise. This position will be located at our headquarters in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Responsibilities

  • Lead an integrated project team to conduct project planning and execution activities including developing and documenting project scope, execution plan, schedule, and budget baselines, as well as identify, assess, and manage project risks.
  • Financial responsibilities for capital projects including forecasting, budgeting, managing, and controlling costs and purchase orders; scheduling performance for a project; serving as a point of contact for project controls, including account scope; scheduling budgeting and leading technical performance efforts to ensure work packages realistically represent the duration and budget necessary to perform work.
  • Participate in raising issues and engage in conflict resolution during programming, construction, commissioning, and project closeout of assigned projects.
  • Assist facility operations team with engineering and facility issues in North America and Europe.
  • Support the implementation of all key project processes and tools to support project delivery and monitor progress, providing updates and recommendations to the internal engineering team.
  • Participate in the review and assessment of proposed variations/scope changes and identify the impact of cost and schedule to the project.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, client team, design team and contractors on all interactions required for Project Delivery.
  • Review Engineering Turn Over Packages (ETOP) for accuracy and consistency with project specifications.
  • Oversee document control for capital projects utilizing MS SharePoint and DSI asset management software packages where applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with user groups, Facilities, Manufacturing Operations, EH&S, Security, Engineering, QA and others.
  • Assist with proposed new equipment vetting and lab changes as needed.
  • Issue assignments to design professionals and staff, establishing priorities and deadlines.
  • Reviews reports or recommendations prepared by operations for technical and administrative feasibility and makes necessary recommendations.
  • Ability to travel 10% domestically and internationally.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 7+ years relevant work experience in a Project Engineering/Management role.
  • Experience in mechanical or electrical engineering with prior biotech experience.
  • Experience in Lab facility design and construction.
  • Management of multiple trade packages and design teams utilizing BIM.
  • Possess basic office skills using a PC and working with MS office tools (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Self-motivated, organized, individual capable of working independently as well as a team contributor.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with teams, both internally and externally.
