JOB OPPORTUNITY

Position Title: Assistive Technology Technician

Department: Assistive Technology

Reports To: Director of Assistive Technology

FLSA: Non-exempt

Basic Function

Assistive technology technician to provide itinerant training, and technical support services related to the use of assistive technology in the community to adult persons with varied disabilities.

Essential Functions

  • Following evaluation provided by AT Specialist, provide training related to computer technology and adaptive equipment to individual clients and/or caregivers.
  • Coordinate equipment requisitions with clients, funding agencies and other interested parties, and provide installation of equipment as needed.
  • Provide consultation services to clients and contracting agencies regarding assistive technology both by phone and in person
  • Identify potential technology needs for the client to discuss with an AT Specialist.
  • Conduct professional education programs.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation based on professional practice, regulatory requirements, Easterseals policies and procedures, contracting agency requirements and third-party payor guidelines.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

  • Achieve established productivity standards based on job assignment.
  • Effective time management.
  • Submit paperwork and billing requirements in a timely manner in accordance with agency standards and with strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Follow Easterseals policies and procedures.
  • Follow policies and procedures of contracting agency.
  • Be clear, concise, thorough, informative and timely in one-to-one interactions and group situations.
  • Actively listen and respond to others in a manner which reflects compassion, understanding and acknowledgment of information that has been shared.
  • Be tactful and show respect to others.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor.
  • Provide written information to third party payers, contract agencies and equipment vendors.

Relations with Others:

  • Always display an attitude of professionalism.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in order to adjust to changes in organizational operations and/or job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate initiative towards own personal and professional growth, evaluate own progress and take corrective action and support organizational needs.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings, in services and educational programs.
  • Demonstrate ability to follow through on realistic commitments, maintain expected work schedule and use discretionary time appropriately.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Access, and Excel.
  • Other general clerical skills.
  • Must have working knowledge of assistive technology with strong computer experience.
  • Two years of related experience or associate’s degree.
  • Previous work with persons with disabilities preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of disability related issues preferred.
  • Must pass extensive background checks and provide professional references.
  • If selected for hire, candidates must be able to provide a recent physical indicating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job either with or without accommodations, proof of negative TB test, and required immunizations (including fully vaccinated status for Covid-19).

Required Work Habits:

  • Plans, schedules and performs work under the general direction of the Director of AT.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff throughout the organization to reach programmatic objectives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by phone and in person with professionals and clients with various disabilities.
  • Ability to organize projects, prioritize workflow and complete multiple tasks simultaneously, accurately, and independently.
  • Must present in a professional and business-like manner and appearance.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent communicating in person, via phone and through e-mail.
  • Frequent use of computer and telephone
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking
  • Must be able to use various office machines.
  • Lifting/pushing/pulling: must be able to move boxes/packages up to 25 pounds as needed. Maximum of 50 pounds. Must be able to access file cabinet
  • Must be able to enter information into the computer
  • Must be able to read various instructions provided
  • Able to travel to all work locations.

Cognitive Demands:

  • Varying peaks in workload to be expected.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by phone and in person with staff and with professionals from outside agencies.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to manage stress.
  • Frequent interruptions in workflow

Work Schedule

Full Time - 35 hours per week

Willing to adjust work schedule to accommodate needs of client/contracting agency.
