Assistant Pupil Transportation Director

Job Summary: This position assists the Transportation Director and METS staff in all aspects of the pupil transportation program to maintain and promote positive community and employee relations while meeting the service goals of the department.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Director as the primary representative of the Transportation Department responsible for supervising and working with a staff consisting of Bus Drivers, Monitors and Mechanics to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

2. Lead training for current and new employees including but not limited to, meeting all ELDT requirements for new drivers.

3. Coordinate the assignment of bus drivers, aides and substitutes to bus runs and extra-curricular trips per policy.

4. Coordinate the assignment of buses and other equipment to the needs of the route or trip.

5. Review and process employee payroll.

6. Develop strategies with the METS Corporate Office to ensure a high level of service and a positive work experience for the METS Bus Drivers, Monitors, Mechanics and Staff assigned to the District.

7. Work with employees, school administrators, emergency services and the general public to facilitate resolution for problems encountered within the pupil transportation services provided.

8. Process student address changes, adds/deletions and updates for the General Education & Special Education student populations.

9. Maintain up-to-date maps and route sheets for all bus routes utilizing Transfinder routing software.

10. Ensure an accurate Driver Call List is available for use.

11. Type a variety of communication material from inception, rough draft or instruction, such as letters, memoranda, bulletins & requisitions.

12. Gather data to prepare a variety of federal, state, district and/or METS reports.

Secondary Responsibilities:

1. Assist department staff with filing systems which include confidential records.

2. Assist with the maintenance of drivers’ DOT files ensuring compliance items are renewed before expiration.

3. Assist with recording and tracking of Emergency Evacuation Drills and other periodic requirements.

4. Fill in as a substitute bus driver as needed.

Requirements:

1. Ability to maintain a positive attitude within a variety of working scenarios including personal face to face, telephone and written communications.

2. Ability to tolerate stressful situations and work well with parents and students, as well as District representatives and other METS staff members.

3. Follow and successfully respond to district rules and regulations as well as METS policies and procedures.

4. Maintain respect at all time for confidential information.

5. Ability to obtain and/or maintain a CDL with the following endorsements: Airbrakes, B, P & S, while undergoing pre-employment and random drug testing per DOT regulations and maintain an eligible driving record per all applicable employer policies and state/federal laws. Two (2) years of previous school bus driving experience is required.

6. Must pass State and FBI Criminal Background Check

7. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED), college coursework preferred.

8. Office/clerical skills (typing, filing, bookkeeping, and general computer skills). Specialized computer use including Excel & routing software.

9. Previous supervisory/management experience within a Transportation Department or comparable setting preferred.

Duration of Position: This is a full time, salaried, 12 month position.

Salary: $55,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience. Health, Dental & Vision insurance benefits and 401k retirement savings options are available.
