Camp Classen utilizes our 2200 acre natural oasis in the heart of the Arbuckle mountains of Southern Oklahoma to provide YMCA programming that builds healthy mind, body and spirit for all.

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Programs, the Assistant Program Director, will be apart of our Camp Program Leadership team that will help lead and build the program staff, instructors and next generation of leaders in camping. You will help ensure that our programs are an amazing experience for every participant, whether it’s a church group, family camp, conference/retreat, summer camp or outdoor education school. You will be responsible for helping coordinate schedules of groups and staff, programming including team leadership, summer programing, activity instruction, group hosting, and more while ensuring the safety and welfare of all camp guests. You are a role model that inspires others to achieve the mission of the YMCA.

This a full time exempt role, that includes on site housing (shared) and meals will also be provided whenever a group is dining with us. It requires a flexible schedule which may include days/evenings/weekdays/weekends to facilitate programs.

Requirements:


Essential Functions:

  • Assists in the supervision, training, scheduling, and evaluation of program department Staff.
  • Assists in monitoring the camp facilities and program equipment to maintain safety standards and quality.
  • Act as the primary contact for Camp guests while on Camp Classen premises.
  • Assists, lead and train all program staff in all group activities and classes including but not limited to; outdoor school lessons, camp activities, hikes, camp fires, meal times, games, and more.
  • Assist or Lead outdoor school, summer camp or retreat groups
  • works with the Senior Director and other department staff to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the program department including communicating any concerns or incidents that may need follow up.
  • Respond appropriately to the needs of all guests before, during, and after their visit.
  • Monitors and assists in the maintenance of a clean and sanitary program that meets all ACA Standards.
  • Communicates to Senior Director any suggestions, concerns or incidents that may need follow-up.
  • Assists in establishing new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with the Association and branch strategic plans
  • Promotes and incorporates the YMCA four core values and character development model into all program activities
  • Dedication to job, camp participants and the YMCA cause.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Actively participates in and supports the goals of the Annual Campaign through building relationships, engaging volunteers and carrying out other assigned fund raising duties.
  • Effectively communicates the camp rules, procedures, and schedule to students/campers, acting as a role model for students/campers and staff
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication in a professional manner with schools, guests, groups, parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Maintain appearance of camp through cleanliness and set-up, with a "It's My Camp" attitude
  • Servant leader in doing what they can to help the overall success of camp

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Certifications: CPR, AED & First Aid.
  • Must complete Redwoods Online Training within 30 days of hire date
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Three or more years of college/trade school or previous experience working with children, preferably in a overnight camp setting
  • Demonstrated ability to create & deliver exceptional customer service to a broad audience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, well organized & demonstrated ability to multi task.
  • Demonstrated skill & depth of knowledge in the areas of group work processes, program & staff management.
  • Demonstrated, successful financial management skills.
  • Able to operate words, excel, office, other software applications.
  • Experience working with youth and supervising staff
  • Strong desire to work in the outdoors
  • Must be able to self-regulate your emotions in a fast-paced community environment
  • A commitment to working with a diverse staff and camper population.
  • Enthusiastic, engaged and professional personality.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, and responsibilities.
  • Ability to follow instructions and schedules.
  • Experience preferred in at least two or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, canoeing, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
  • Previous summer camp experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
