Summary

Ascension Childcare, Inc. (ACC) is a NAEYC accredited and 5 STAR early childhood care and education program in Shelburne, VT. ACC has been serving the community for over 30 years and currently serves more than 40 families with around 55 children ages six weeks to five years old. ACC is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit and embraces a play-based program philosophy, with a focus on anti-bias education.

Under the leadership of the Executive Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for working to ensure the program's core values, mission, philosophy, and developmentally appropriate practices are present and consistent across all classrooms. The Assistant Director, in collaboration with the Executive Director, provides daily oversight of Ascension Childcare, Inc's classrooms and programming.This includes assisting with all aspects of compliance and program regulation, accreditation, licensing, staffing and professional development, curriculum, quality control, budgeting, parent and public relations. The Assistant Director oversees planned and implemented curriculum in all classrooms, offering collaboration, feedback and advice to classroom teachers as they plan and execute curriculum. The Assistant Director supports classroom teachers to ensure proper behavior management strategies are implemented for children who display challenging behaviors, children with identified special needs have proper accommodations, and intervention services are scheduled and maintained.



Duties
  • Regularly observe and play in classrooms. Be a familiar face to all teachers, children, and families.
  • Quality control - offer regular feedback to classroom teachers regarding ACC philosophy, best practice, NAEYC program standards, VT child care licensing criteria, and VELS standards (specific to Preschool and PreK classrooms).
  • Assist veteran teachers and guide new teachers in observation techniques and child assessments.
  • Provide feedback to classroom teachers regarding curriculum, behavior management strategies, and early intervention strategies.
  • Help classroom teachers initiate referrals when developmental delays or concerns arise.
  • Attend IEP meetings and/or parent meetings when appropriate.
  • Ensure IEPs and other suggested interventions are followed by classroom teachers.
  • Assist Executive Director in planning and scheduling professional development trainings for ACC's staff that support the varying needs of the program.
  • Assist in recruitment efforts, hiring process, and new staff onboarding.
  • Assist Executive Director in ensuring proper teacher placement and teaching team collaboration.
  • Assist in developing and revising program policies and procedures.
  • Provide program oversight when Executive Director is not available.

Requirements
  • At least 21 Years of Age
  • Qualify as a Teacher, as outlined by CBCPP Regulations
  • A minimum of 3 years of previous experience in an accredited childcare program
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, childcare licensing, accreditation, VELS standards, and anti-bias education goals.
  • Applicant must be available for 40 hours/week for a daily shift M-F between the hours of 7:30-5:30
