Assistant Professor Faculty Position in Public Health, Health Equity & Social Justice

The Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences (HPBS) in the University of Louisville School of Public Health & Information Sciences and the Center for Health Equity (CHE) in the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor faculty position that emphasizes a commitment to teaching, research, and practice and focusing on health equity and social justice. This is a joint appointment between HPBS and LMPHW.� The earliest start date for this role is Fall 2023.

Responsibilities

Faculty will conduct research with meaningful impacts on health promotion practice and/or policy. The successful candidate will participate in research that improves health and quality of life for historically disenfranchised communities. Additionally, the candidate will provide guidance to the CHE and utilize its resources to advance health-equity focused policy and practice at a local level.� Candidates will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses and provide advising and mentoring services to students. Faculty will integrate students into their research.

Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate with a demonstrated commitment to health equity and social justice. In particular, applicants should have interests and experience examining policy and analyzing the impact of policy on health.� Experience in evaluation is desired.� Applicants should have a terminal degree (PhD, DrPH) in public health or a related field by the appointment start date. We seek scholars who have either demonstrated or have the potential to generate innovative scholarship and practice related to health equity and social justice. An ideal candidate will have experience employing anti-racist/anti-oppressive approaches to research, interdisciplinary scholarship experience, and a commitment to translating research into practice. Topical areas of interest can include, but are not limited to:

The University of Louisville School of Public Health & Information Sciences is a CEPH-accredited Public Health Program that currently has almost 300 undergraduate students, 172 master's students, and 104 doctoral students. SPHIS has 20 instructional programs including two undergraduate degrees, seven master's degrees, including the MPH, five Ph.D. programs, and two certificates. Our enrollment at SPHIS has nearly tripled in the last five years.

About the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness

The LMPHW is a nationally accredited, independent, academic health department committed to achieving health equity and improving the health and well-being of all Louisville residents and visitors. �LMPHW operates as part of the merged city/county government, Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government, in the most populous city/county in Kentucky. Jefferson County sits on the Ohio River, in North Central Kentucky and is home to over 760,000 people within its consolidated city/county boundaries. The population served by LMPHW is diverse and includes 6.7% immigrant residents, 14.5% of residents have one or more disability, and there are over 136 languages spoken in Jefferson County schools.

LMPHW is organized under four divisions: Administration; Environmental; Health Services and the�CHE. The CHE was established in 2006, and was the first of its kind within a municipal government.
