Job Posting Summary

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Mercy College is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor for the Mental Health Counseling program housed in the Department of Counseling. This is an in-person position; however the candidate can teach some courses online.

Primary responsibilities include teaching graduate courses in Mental Health Counseling and counselor education, academic advising, and serving on academic program committees.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a record of excellent teaching and scholarly productivity.
  • Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Counselor Education or in a Counseling related field.
  • Knowledge of the CACREP standards, New York State Licensure Regulations, and Blackboard or an equivalent Learning Management System is highly preferred.
  • Licensure or license eligibility as a New York State LMHC is highly preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will also have a minimum of three years of experience in mental health counseling, and some experience providing clinical supervision.
  • Candidates with scholarly productivity are preferred, as evidenced by publication, research and grants within counseling.
  • Candidates must have a commitment to working in a multicultural setting.

Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.

The Mercy College Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:
Deferred Compensation Plan
All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the College.
Defined Contribution Plan
Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy College and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.
If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy College, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
