The Dog StopĀ® East End is looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Manager with extensive retail, dog, and customer service experience.

Knowledge of the dog-care industry is required for this position. Applicants without any prior dog care experience will be rejected. If you have experience that you think is pertinent but not listed on your resume, please include an explanation in a cover letter.

We also require a positive attitude, outgoing personality, dedication to providing an excellent experience for our clientele, and, of course, a love of dogs. This is a full-time position (40+ hours a week) and open availability, including weekends, is required.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:


  • First and foremost, managing the staff and daily care of dogs
  • Knowing the basics of dog body language
  • Meeting sales goals
  • Merchandising products
  • Inventory tracking
  • Product research
  • Developing customer relationships
  • Client tours
  • Management of client database
  • Social media content creation
  • Laundry duties
  • Dish duties
  • Clear communication with fellow assistant and general manager(s)
  • Contributing to a positive team environment and, of course, cuddling and having fun with dogs!

Prior to being trained upfront, hired candidates will begin with approximately 7-10 training shifts in the back. This will ensure the employee is familiar with all aspects of the facility and how they are run. During the training phase, employees will be paid an hourly wage of $16/hr.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • 2 years experience in retail and customer service
  • At least 1 year of experience working in the dog care field
  • Willingness to learn
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Flexible schedule and ability to work weekends
  • Previous experience using client-based systems such as PetExec or Gingr is preferred but not required.
