Description:
Faculty in the Department of Behavioral, Social and Health Education Sciences at the Rollins School of Public Health, in partnership with Cherokee Nation Behavioral Health, have funding from the NIH Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative for a cluster-randomized prevention trial conducted in rural communities in or near the Cherokee Nation Reservation (in northeast Oklahoma). The goal of the trial is to implement and evaluate a theory-based, integrated multi-level intervention designed to prevent the onset and escalation of substance misuse among high school students into adulthood. Main outcome measures are assessed with a survey of youth followed over 3.5 years (7 survey waves).

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Under limited supervision, the epidemiologist would have knowledge of advanced statistical methods to analyze, develop, implement, and promote new and creative strategies and solutions to address public health issues and challenges in a clinical research environment.
  • Designs, manages, and evaluates large, state-level (group-randomized) controlled trial.
  • Thoroughly understands and executes study protocols and procedures to ensure accurate and consistent collection of data.
  • Provides technical expertise and advice on study design and data analysis using a variety of statistical methods.
  • May provide assistance with interpretation of statistical analysis for peer review.
  • Contributes to grant proposals, protocols, data analysis plans and management, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings.
  • May participate in peer-reviewed manuscript authorship and occasional travel to scientific conferences.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A master's degree in public health (epidemiology) or related research intensive field from an accredited school. At least one year of related experience, which could be classified as fellowships, research assistantships, or part-time research activities, is preferred.
PREFERRED QUAILIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to program in SAS. Additional statistical programming languages (R, MPLUS, etc) are also helpful, but not required.
  • The ideal candidate will be comfortable with navigating across multiple systems data collection systems (Qualtrics, Redcap, etc), able to script data management code in either SAS or R, able to conduct regression-based analyses independently, and willing to learn additional analytic techniques as needed.
  • Experience with research participant tracking is preferred.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
