The Analytical Solutions Division (ASD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc (ARA) is looking for a candidate in Huntsville, Alabama and fill the role of Assistant Division Manager (ADM) within the fast-growing Rapid Prototype Group (RPG). This position is a formally recognized and respected role throughout the company with flexible requirements across divisions, based on Division Manager (DM) discretion.

The ADM works closely with the DM and the RPG Group Leader (GL) as part of the management team responsible for overseeing all operations. The ADM will report directly to the DM but is also expected to maintain a collaborative relationship with the RPG GL who will maintain responsibility for all contract execution that involves cost, schedule, and delivery.

As the RPG ADM, you will have the unique opportunity to provide leadership by modeling ARA’s core values of passion, freedom, service and growth and maintaining responsibility in the following key areas:

  • Administrative Operations and Oversight
  • Assist in activities such as the development of division vision and policy, and long-range planning, operational efficiency, and mentoring of administrative and operations staff within the scope identified above.
    • Responsible for administrative and operational functions of the group, such as IT, HR, security, safety, accounting, purchasing etc.
  • Maintain a broad managerial awareness of the group’s operation, performance, and key activities.
    • Understand, execute, and enforce all ARA and division-specific policies and procedures, including time reporting, travel, and purchasing.
    • Develop positive working relationships with other ARA leaders to ensure cooperation and coordination on joint efforts.
  • Proposals
    • Review proposals and cost estimates in line with ARA and the division’s policies and procedures as needed.
  • Talent Management
    • Recruit individuals based on the current and future operational needs of the division.
    • Coach and develop operational and administrative staff and other direct reports.
    • Manage performance of direct reports in accordance with ARA’s performance management policy.
    • Effectively resolve employee disputes and concerns as needed.
  • Financial Management
    • Responsible for understanding the division’s profit goals and assist DM with holding operations and administrative team accountable to those goals.
    • Review and monitor group’s budget including overhead and direct contract components; collaborate with Division Manager/Associate Division Manager/Group Leader as needed.
  • Safety
    • Know, understand and enforce ARA’s Health and Safety policies.
    • Provide a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
  • Specific Management duties as assigned by the DM.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area or equivalent experience
  • 12 - 15 years related experience as a PM or similar that shows experience in the related essential functions
  • Motivated to ensure the efficiency of operational and administrative teams within the division
