Job Description
The Business Center North (BCN) Purchasing Department is recruiting for an Assistant Director, Purchasing. The Assistant Director reports to the Purchasing Director.
BCN is the unit charged by Board of Regents policy to conduct all purchases of goods and services for the five BCN institutions: Desert Research Institute, Great Basin College, Truckee Meadows Community College, the University of Nevada, Reno and Western Nevada College as well as the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) System Offices.
The Assistant Director, Purchasing, together with the Director, Purchasing, represent the primary “contracting officers” or “purchasing agents” for BCN institutions. The Assistant Director plans, organizes and directs key operations of the BCN Purchasing Department which include reviewing, approving and issuing purchase orders; composing, issuing and managing bids including requests for quotations and proposals and construction bidding and awards of contracts; maintenance of required records for purchases, bids and contracts; and management of various ancillary programs such as the UNR Copy Program.
The Assistant Director develops, documents and implements policies and procedures that provide for effective operations and efficient customer service and that properly address legal and ethical regulations. The Assistant Director is one of the primary contacts for the Purchasing department with all auditors, including internal, external, federal and state (legislative) auditors.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience; OR
Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience
Related Experience:
  • Working in procurement and contract management for a college, university or governmental entity
  • Public sector purchasing and contract management
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB), Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.), or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) Preferred
