Job Summary
DSF is hiring for an exciting new position that will deepen DSF’s training, support and professional development for DSF Campus Advisors and codification of DSF’s College Success, Retention, Re-engagement, Completion and Career Readiness work. Strengthening the development of our Campus Advisors will enhance the already high-quality services provided to DSF served college students, and importantly, include upskilling focused on effective student engagement and evolving nimbleness in shifting environments. DSF’s Assistant Director of Success Advisement will develop and implement a modularized coaching program (virtually and/or in-person) for DSF Campus Advisors, ensuring the offering of effective student support to meet both the academic pathways and workforce needs of its students, leading to retention and credential completion.

  • Individualized coaching, with in-depth ongoing cycles of observation, feedback, and development plans for all Campus Advisors (including Lead Campus Advisors). This includes, but is not limited to coaching that is: Individualized: One-on-one coaching with Campus Advisors through shadowing, observation, and feedback discussions during coaching sessions. Intensive: Regularly scheduled meetings between coach and Campus Advisors. Context specific: Deepening retention, completion, and career preparation content knowledge, tools, and resources for Campus Advisors to share with their students, including career exposure/preparation and ways to connect postsecondary programs to workforce opportunities, so students can gain the greatest benefits of DSF’s College Success program. Measurable: Create an Advisor evaluation tool to be used in Advisor observations that measure Advisor effectiveness and usage of advising resources. Developmental: Identify themes and common gaps in knowledge and skill to serve as a professional development framework and individualized development plans. Research Based: Develop expertise on cognitive coaching, motivational interviewing, and aspirational interviewing and integrate as student coaching methods into all Advisor development sessions. Ensure appropriate implementation of DSF Advisement Standards & Competencies, including integration of Appreciative Advising, Developmental Relationships Framework and Career Exploration & Readiness.
  • Lead the development, coordination, and implementation of DSF’s postsecondary student services program to include individual advising, group facilitation, workshops, and presentations, focused on core services to support persistence and postsecondary completion and career readiness and entry.
  • Supporting and monitoring class selection, credit completion, Satisfactory Academic Progress, financial aid advising, transfer advising (if applicable), career prep, community building, personal and leadership development
  • Ensure the on-going infusion of an effective career advising plan with strategic focus placed on maximizing DSF career exposure opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities for improving efficiency in data usage to set college success goals and map key indicators towards goals by student retention, completion, and career readiness steps.
  • Research and understand common barriers to retention and completion, and best practices to support and engage diverse college students with goal of completion.
  • Provide direct supervision for Lead Campus Advisors, including evaluating performance, and identifying/providing on-going training and professional development opportunities for the entire department.
  • In collaboration Lead Campus Advisors, serve as a liaison for college partner(s) to ensure that Campus Advisors and students have access to the resources and information needed to implement DSF’s postsecondary student services program
  • Work in close collaboration with the Assistant Director of Advisement (Access) to outline overall DSF philosophy and structure of critical components of advising across the Program Team.
  • Create and contribute to a strong team culture, delegate projects to maximize individual skills, and provide actionable feedback to foster professional growth and increased effectiveness
  • Chair or Co Chair the DSF Career Council, provide coaching on labor market and industry information, ensuring Advisors are up-to-date on current job trends and projections, student resources, academic programs, and internship opportunities, ensuring DSF’s services are cutting-edge and relevant in regard to college and career advising.
  • Use and manage DSF interns and volunteers as available/needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Expert-level knowledge of college retention & completion systems and practices, including student advising/coaching, engagement and support programs, academic pathways & success, career readiness, financial aid/scholarships, and/or college enrollment processes.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership of large professional teams, strong ability to identify and communicate the need for change/s, and able to foster successful adoption of improved behaviors from team members.
  • Excellent track record working with DSF colleagues, peers, students and college partners, including demonstrated ability to motivate others and resolving conflicts in a timely and efficient manner
  • Experience working with diverse populations (including diversity in race/ethnicity, cultural background, language, immigration status, and socio-economic status, etc.), and a demonstrated passion for college access and coaching other professionals
  • Experience building innovative partnerships and relationships within internal and external partners
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with data collection and analysis, as well as oral, written, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Proactive problem-solver who demonstrates initiative and ability to work individually and on a team
  • Proven ability to appreciate and respond appropriately to the sometimes disparate needs of a variety of stakeholders, including students, college partner staff and administration, and DSF.
  • Effectively use a variety of technology tools including database, various software programs, internet tools, and communication tools
  • A sense of humor, tolerance for change, and a demonstrated ability to create a positive culture and sense of empowerment for students/families

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in a related field, including supervisory experience (Master’s Degree highly desired)
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in college access and/or success programming, including advising, financial aid, admissions, retention & completion support
  • Experience working with diverse populations (including diversity in race/ethnicity, cultural background, language, immigration status, and socio-economic status, etc.), and a demonstrated passion for college success and coaching other professionals

Highly Desired

  • Master’s Degree in a related field
  • Experience with professional coaching

Compensation and Benefits

  • 60,000 to $72,000
