Commonwealth University of PA is seeking an Assistant Director of Admissions (SUA2).

The Assistant Director of Admissions is an integral part of a high-functioning recruitment team that emphasizes timely follow up with prospective students, a data-driven approach to territory management, and heavy use of technology to meet enrollment targets. The incumbent will generate inquiries, applications, and ultimately enrolled students to all 3 campuses of Commonwealth University (Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, Mansfield) through a variety of outreach channels (text, phone, and email), visits to high schools and college fairs, and hosting groups on campus. Seasonal travel is required for approximately 3 months in the fall and 2 months in the Spring, along with some nights and weekends.

The home campus for this position is Mansfield, with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

Examples of Duties

Territory Management

  • Coordinate, plan, and execute a cost-effective Fall and Spring recruitment travel schedule.
  • Establish community connections and strong partnerships with key stakeholders in the recruitment process.
  • Visit high schools and represent Commonwealth University at all relevant college fairs and programs.
  • Host off-campus area receptions to generate applications or convert admitted students to enrolled.
  • Plan, organize and implement special recruitment activities targeting underrepresented students including but not limited to dedicated bus trips, receptions and joint recruitment programs with other state schools.
  • Serve as point of contact for Commonwealth University to guidance counselors and related high school and community college personnel.
  • Conduct extensive phone, email, and text follow-ups with key inquiries and applicants.
  • Use of data and reporting to understand targeted demographics and prioritize recruitment activities.
  • Renders appropriate admissions decisions on first year applications

Campus Responsibilities

  • Schedule regular visits to each campus to connect with relevant faculty, staff, and students.
  • Conduct group presentations and meet individually with visitors to explain the features, benefits, and proofs of a Commonwealth University degree.
  • Maintain a common calendar showing availability and activity each week.
  • Update and track recruitment activities.
  • Organize and host bus and group visits at all 3 campuses with an emphasis on serving underrepresented and diverse populations.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned
  • Position requires a high degree of initiative and independent judgement; makes admission decisions using guidelines established by the Director of Admission; perform market research for assigned territory using trends analysis and historical data to make recommendation to the Director for approval; recommends improvements to current procedures.
  • Plans events and recruitment travel responsibly to ensure best use of university/departmental funds.

3. Frequent lifting of objects weighing less than 10 pounds

10. Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
11. Reading skills including understanding written direction.
12. Writing skills in preparing and organizing documents
13. Sensory skills, i.e. visual, hearing, and speaking
14. Keyboard skills

Qualifying Experience/Education
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Prior experience in college admissions preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of CRM and SIS data systems, particularly Slate and Banner
  • Ability to master and present academic programs, basic financial aid information, and school programs across 3 campuses

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in related field preferred: Communication, Marketing, Sales, Business, Student Affairs
