Position Summary:

Under the direction of the County Auditor, the Assistant Auditor performs a wide range of professional auditing and advisory services using standard and specialized methods and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and County policies. Work involves preparing detailed financial statements, schedules and reports, reconciling and verifying accounts, and monitoring internal controls. Interprets and analyzes a wide variety of accounting data and financial reports and recommends action. Must maintain confidentiality and high ethical standards.

Essential Job Functions:

· Plans and conducts monthly audits of certain county offices, including reconciling bank statements, preparing journal entries, and data input into computerized general ledger system

· Prepares audit reports and communicates with various county officials

· Assists in establishing and monitoring a system of internal controls for county offices

· Works on special projects and other duties as required by researching, collecting and analyzing data of a financial and/or statistical nature

· Monitor grant administration and financial reporting

· Provide budgetary support and assist County officials with proper accounting procedures and compliance with State statutes, County and grant policies and procedures

· Regular attendance and timeliness is required

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

· Knowledge of and ability to apply accounting and auditing principles

· Proficient knowledge of basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, interest, decimals and percentages

· General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook

· General skill in operating standard office equipment such as personal computers, calculators, photocopiers, fax machines, scanning equipment and multi-line telephones

· Possess excellent communication skills in expressing oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

· Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with the public and County employees in person and by telephone

· Excellent organizational and time management skills, especially the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks

· Ability to research, understand and apply the Texas Local Government Code and other laws related to county government

· Knowledge and ability to extract and interpret financial data

· Ability to maintain both confidentiality and high ethical standards

· Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

· 2 years of work related experience in accounting and/or auditing

· Preferred: governmental accounting experience

Additional Information:

· Requires ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and ability to bend, stoop and reach

· Requires ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds

· Requires ability to speak and adequate visual and auditory acuity needed to use telephone and office equipment

· May require extended hours or overtime beyond normal work schedule

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $1.00 per hour
