The Finance Group is responsible for managing all financial and accounting processes for the Bank, including internal and external financial reporting, regulatory and public company reporting, accounts payable, budgeting, risk modeling (interest rate, liquidity and credit), investments, and the Bank’s FDICIA/SOX control environment. We have a small team where everyone is expected to be hands on and able to act as a backup for each other. The Finance Group also helps other business units within the Bank identify opportunities to become more efficient and develop operational leverage.

Responsibilities - What you'll get to do

As the Assistant Controller, you will be part of the Bank’s Finance Group and will help manage all aspects of the Bank’s accounting operations, internal control system and reporting functions. Reporting directly to the Treasurer of the Bank you are expected to both manage well-established processes, as well as investigate and recommend new processes, systems and practices. This is an exciting role that provides full finance support to business partners as well as offering scope for leadership of individual analytical/process improvement projects. This is a remote or in person role.


The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the Treasurer and the Chief Financial Officer with accounting related functions including monthly and quarterly reporting and account reconciliations, FDICIA/SOX compliance, accounting analysis, budgeting, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, and assisting with financial audits. In addition, this role interfaces with all levels within the organization which requires strong interpersonal and communications skills.

  • Manages all aspects of accounting operational functions, to ensure the integrity of the general ledger and compliance with the Bank’s policies and internal control requirements.
  • Manages all aspects of the general ledger, including the preparation of financial statements and coordination of the Bank’s account certification program.
  • Involvement in and oversight of general ledger entry preparation and review, general ledger and internal accounts reconciliation, and month-end close processes.
  • Identifies and resolves accounting inaccuracies or imbalances to ensure accuracy and completeness of records.
  • Administers and enhances the Company’s internal control environment regarding business processes and control activities.
  • Assesses current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes.
  • Participates in the development of accounting policies and procedures and ensures that they are functioning as intended.
  • Performs Treasury functions such as the preparation of wire transfers and reconciliation of internal accounts.
  • Assists with the preparation of financial, regulatory, internal and management reports as well as the quarterly Call Report, 10-Q and annual 10-K filings.
  • Acts as a liaison for external and internal audits - gather documentation, respond to information requests and interact with auditors.
  • Monitors, documents and communicates new accounting standards, interpretations, and emerging guidance to senior management.
  • Supports the Bank’s Asset- Liability management program.
  • Assists in the annual budget preparation and performance monitoring.
  • Supports other areas of the Bank and lead projects for the Bank as needed.
  • Provides backup for other accounting functions.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • High ethical standards.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, and comfortable with technology and learning new software programs.
  • Knowledge of bank accounting and financial reporting principles.
  • Prior accounting experience in a banking environment or in public accounting of financial institutions.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accurate, with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interface well with colleagues and external contacts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization.
  • Proven ability to be discreet and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Undergraduate or master’s degree in a related field.
  • Solid organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage financial models for business forecasting, variance analysis, and problem solving.
  • Licensed CPA or candidate.
