General Statement

The Assistant Comptroller is responsible for managing the day-to-day activity of fiscal operations of the college and supervisor of accounting staff. This includes maintaining, updating, and reconciling the general ledger, supervising accounting transactions and staff, complying with fiscal policies and procedures, assisting in other financial reporting.


Supervision Received

Reports directly to the Comptroller.


Supervision Exercised

Supervises and evaluates Accountants as assigned.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains computerized general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting records.
  • Reviews and approves accounting transactions.
  • Monitor the reconciliation of all funds and accounts within the general ledger.
  • Ensure that all bank reconciliation including State Treasury accounts are performed and reviewed monthly.
  • Review grant proposal budgets to ensure reasonableness, financial viability and compliance with College and sponsoring agency guidelines.
  • Oversees the post-award financial and accounting functions for grants and contracts in accordance with federal/state regulation, generally accepted accounting principles and College policies/guidelines.
  • Oversees disbursement of all Financial Aid funds to students, review transactions drawdowns and approves journal entries. Responsible for oversight of federal drawdowns and review of the monthly reconciliations.
  • Assists in maintaining, research and updating of fiscal policies, internal controls and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Lead report writer through Cognos, PowerBI or other reporting software.
  • Assists in preparation of fiscal reports for internal or external constituents.
  • Assists in annual audit including assistance in preparation of year-end accounting entries, reconciliations, and schedules.
  • Performs fiscal year end closing procedures.
  • Oversees records retention and destruction system in accordance with state regulations.
  • Assist Comptroller in financial reporting and financial oversight for the Quinsigamond Community College Foundation.
  • Supervise and evaluate accounting staff, part-time staff and work-study staff as assigned.
  • Actively support the teaching and learning process; practicing honesty and integrity in and out of the classroom; strive to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of five years related experience in Accounting or related field.
  • (3)Three years' supervisory experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Excellent skills to be well organized, flexible and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal direct supervision and a focus for content detail and visual presentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Accounting
  • Experience in Higher Education financial operations
  • Experience with integrated systems.
  • Experience with system report writers.
  • Proficiency in both oral and written communication skills.
