Assistant Attorney General

Public Protection & Advocacy Bureau

Insurance & Financial Services Division

The Attorney General’s Office is looking for an Assistant Attorney General to work in the Insurance & Financial Services Division which provides consumer assistance and enforces laws regarding insurance, investment and lending issues, including a focus on post-secondary education, debt, and loan servicing.

Primary Duties: Evaluate insurance rate filings and engage in administrative rate litigation; the Assistant Attorney General will also undertake consumer protection investigations into financial services issues and pursue judgments in Superior Court, as needed. The position also involves policy development and assisting, as needed, with outreach and related mediations.

Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt

Salary: Salary is based on JD year and experience.

Qualifications


Position Requirements: JD from an accredited law school, bar admission required. Applicants with a strong work ethic and an interest in economic and social justice are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be highly motivated, intellectually curious, and able to quickly learn new and complicated subject areas. Attentiveness to detail is a must. Experience with insurance rate filings, administrative rate litigation, cross examination of expert witnesses, actuarial analysis, mathematical modeling, econometrics and/or financial analysis is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required. Applicants must be comfortable working autonomously, but also as part of a team. We seek an individual who is highly motivated to work in the public interest. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, including historically marginalized communities, and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.
