Position description

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD), Department of Pediatrics (http://www-pediatrics.ucsd.edu), and Rady Children's Hospital of San Diego (RCHSD) (http://www.rchsd.org) are committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. We are seeking Pediatricians with expertise in Child Abuse Pediatrics to provide patient care at RCHSD/the Chadwick Center for Children and Families, and within the Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics.

The Chadwick Center at RCHSD is one of the largest hospital-based child advocacy and trauma treatment centers in the nation, with a staff of 75 professionals (medicine, social work, psychology, psychiatry, child development, nursing, education technology). The Chadwick Center provides child abuse medical services for San Diego, Imperial and southern Riverside counties, a region with over 3 million people. Child abuse pediatricians oversee a 24/7 response to acute child/adolescent sexual assault and provide continual telephone availability to the community to triage and manage medical intervention for maltreatment issues. There is a daily clinic for outpatient child abuse and neglect evaluations as well as medical second opinion cases with additional clinical child abuse oversight to children evaluated for burns at the Regional Burn Center at UCSD. The attending physicians also provide back up to the providers at the emergency County shelter for children in custody.

The Division has a strong commitment to clinical care, teaching, multidisciplinary collaboration and scholarly pursuits. Division faculty play a major role in the education and teaching of medical students, pediatric residents and fellows, and in planning for the annual San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate of Full Professor level in the Clinical series will be determined based on the background and qualifications of the successful candidates.
