Job Summary
The Assistant/Associate Athletics Director, Communications oversees all media relations and social media platforms for FGCU’s NCAA Division I programs. Serves as the contact for local, regional, and national TV and radio contracts. Responsible for oversight of FGCU Athletics website and all athletic publications including, but not limited to, media guides, game programs, game notes, feature stories, and game caps.

Job Description
Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Oversees media relations for all 15 NCAA Division I programs. Issues media credentials, maintains website, coordinates press releases, and reports on event/contest results. Serves as publicist and media liaison to ASUN, CCSA, and NCAA.
  • Oversees FGCU Athletics social media platforms and web page.
  • Oversees all athletic publications including, but not limited to, media guides, game programs, game notes, feature stories, and game recaps. Ensures accuracy and consistency with branding.
  • Provides supervision and leadership to full-time, temporary, and student Athletics Communications staff.
  • Maintains team and individual statistics. Ensures accuracy of files on all current and past sports teams, individuals, and coaches.
  • Coordinates activities surrounding home athletic contests including hosting visiting media. Organizes and supervises required statisticians and table crew/press box staffing for home events.
  • Promotes post-season honors for outstanding student-athletes, coaches, and administrators.
  • Recommends budget needs for the Athletics Communications office. Oversees the operating budget to ensure program alignment with fiscal allocation.
  • Complies with all University, ASUN or CCSA (Coastal Collegiate Sports Association) regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University, ASUN and CCSA rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test, if applicable. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree from and accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Five years of professional full-time experience in Athletics communications, public relations, or other relevant experience.
  • Experience with audio or multi-media production, communications website design and oversight, graphic design, writing, photography, and social media design.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook and Adobe Creative Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Sports Management, Communication, Journalism, or closely related field.
  • Six years of professional full-time athletic communications related experience in an intercollegiate athletics department.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of rules and statistics for each sport.
  • Knowledge of social media era marketing strategies and communication principles.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
  • Knowledge of NCAA, Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN), and Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) rules and regulations as they pertain to the job duties.
  • Knowledge of ESPN and other event production platforms.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of and skill in publication production.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance and motivation.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgement in the establishment, interpretation, application, and enforcement of all rules, regulations, and policies.
