General Summary: Administer the NCAA compliance program to establish accountability in areas of student-athlete eligibility and rules compliance for the institution and coaches. Support Athletic Director with departmental fundraising efforts and special event planning

Job Duties:

  • Develops, implements and monitors critical systems for NCAA, Great Northwest Athletic Conference and Seattle Pacific University rules, policies and procedures. Investigates any alleged NCAA rules violation and prepares self-report to the NCAA. Attends regional and national conferences to stay current. Is an 'expert' in analyzing governing legislation and educates/informs coaches and athletic administration on a continuing basis regarding frequent changes to NCAA regulations.
  • Anticipates student-athlete difficulties and develops strategies for student academic success. Advises head coaches and connects student-athletes with on campus tutors to uphold academic success and promote class completion.
  • Introduces resources and educational tools to teams and coaches in regards to student-athletes' wellbeing including, but not limited to: Assault & Abuse, Drugs & Alcohol, Mental Health, and Vocational Calling.
  • Coordinates NCAA and SPU athletic information to/from the SPU Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR). Performs duties as liaison to faculty and other offices.
  • Ensures all participating student-athletes meet all applicable NCAA, Great Northwest Athletic Conference and SPU regulations. Prepares and maintains NCAA squad lists. Notifies coaches and student-athletes of eligibility decisions. Prepares and submits NCAA and conference waivers. Administers institutional NLI process.
  • Manages and completes annual NCAA required reports. Including but not limited to Academic Success Rate, Academic Performance Census, NCAA Sport Sponsorship & Demographic Report.
  • Speaks for and represents Athletics to prospects and incoming student-athletes regarding eligibility. Meets with student-athletes, prospects and parents as needed. Assists and monitors student-athlete prospects through the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse.
  • Recommends department policy with respect to eligibility, compliance and other issues arising within Athletics. Collaborates with Athletic Director in evaluating actions necessary to attain Title IX compliance.
  • Coordinates and serves as advisor to SPU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Plans and implements annual Student-Athlete Orientation. Searches for intra- and inter-community involvement project opportunities for student-athletes, teams, and coaches.
  • Cultivates faculty and coaching relationships. Have an invested involvement with Dean's Cabinet, Academic & OSL leaders, and direct correspondence with coaches regarding NCAA matters.
  • Engages the University community by participating in campus activities to include faculty meetings, all-staff meetings, chapels, forums, retreats and other opportunities for building relationships and advocating Athletics.
  • Requires some evening and weekend work, as well as post season NCAA Championship travel.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required. Master's degree or Juris Doctorate, a plus.
  • Two to three years of experience with NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics compliance legislation or related field. Preference for candidates with five years experience with NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics compliance and/or academic services.
  • Strong interest in intercollegiate athletics, student-athletes and related issues.
  • High degree of integrity and credibility.
  • A maturing and contagious Christian faith, knowledge of and the willingness to actively support the Christian mission of the University and accept the life-style standards of the Christian Community.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coaches, athletes, students, faculty, administration and the community.
  • Familiarity with: Compliance Assistant, NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse, LSDBi
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams. Experience in Banner (Elucian) a plus.
