The ART DIRECTOR is responsible for conceptual executions in the production of marketing campaigns and projects. The art director works directly with a copywriter to translate conceptual ideas into well executed marketing and communication elements. The art director can work with other art directors and designers to ideate, strategize, and execute concepts. The team concept allows full cooperation between not only the creative personnel but all team members in a cross functional approach.

This person could be located in Kansas City, MO; Columbia, MO; or remote.

Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates broadcast, digital, print and collateral, materials and more, according to strategic objectives
  • Works with other art directors, copywriters, and additional designated personnel in creation of creative elements.
  • Meets as needed with account service team members and creative team members to ensure coordination between traditional and interactive communication and marketing efforts.
  • Works with senior art director/associate creative directors/creative director in selection of design elements, papers, vendors, models, freelancers, and all outside sources/purchases needed to fulfill production of each project the art director designs.
  • Works with production personnel, providing complete input and any instruction and supervision required to smoothly complete production of approved design. Provides all required specifications (colors, fonts, papers, sizes, etc.).
  • Meets with account executives/project manager/production manager/media as required to ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned projects.
  • Strives to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Reviews all production materials on assigned projects.
  • Art directs videos, photo shoots, press proofing, etc.
  • Supervises freelancers assigned to art director’s projects.
  • Assists with new business presentations.
  • Has a strong and current knowledge of design software and hardware.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Minimum of 4+ years prior work experience as a Designer or Art Director.
  • Proficient use of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator or other visual design and wire-framing tools
  • Solid portfolio demonstrating passion and creativity
  • Ability to work independently and with a partner
  • Strong ability to successfully present conceptual ideas to internal and external audiences
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a larger team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong understanding of digital design tools and best practices
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS (Front-end development is a plus)
  • Experience with logo design, typography, color, web layout design, print production and package design

Education/Experience/Certifications

A bachelor’s degree, design and advertising emphasis preferred.
