As the Microsoft Archives Archivist, you will be connecting people with Microsoft’s heritage and its place in the tech industry’s history through its collections, selection of artifacts and digital materials that will be used in future storytelling, partnering on milestone events, and making the unique historical materials that constitute Microsoft’s heritage accessible to internal and external constituencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and vision for the collections management of this special collection including physical and digital stewardship, selection of new collections materials and artifacts, preservation, and broadening connections and accessibility with the Archives audience including tours and presentations.

  • Deliver a satisfying and valuable Microsoft Archives experience for employees across the world. You analyze the business, assess demand, assign budget, oversee operations by coordinating the work of contingent staff members, develop a perspective for collection management by gathering and evaluating feedback from stakeholders, partners, and employees ensuring they are diverse, inclusive, accessible, and are ready to use for future storytelling needs.

  • Identify opportunities to improve services and employee experience through surveys and tool oversight, evolve the services and quality of the projects supported, establish relationships, and consult with new and existing customers, partners, or internal groups for a strong network and open communications.

  • Provide research derived from the collection to both internal and external stakeholders distilling information into concise briefs.

  • Develop and drive promotional activities for Microsoft Archives programs and services, including writing original content for distribution via email, blog, and internal social media. Design, craft and execute experiences to engage employees with Archives through storytelling, exhibits, and other outreach initiatives.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Vocational qualification or higher education degree (e.g., Bachelor's Degree) AND/OR 2+ years experience in Learning and Development, relevant technical roles, business development, field or sales, customer success, collection management, research/restoration evaluation, industry, or program/project management
  • OR Master's Degree or equivalent AND/OR 1+ year(s) experience in Learning and Development, relevant technical roles, business development, customer success, collection management, research/restoration evaluation, industry, or program/project management
  • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited program with a concentration in archival administration
  • 7 years of relevant professional experience working in archives and special collections; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Integrated Learning IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $91,800 - $178,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $117,900 - $195,000 per year.

Microsoft has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets (see below). The range above reflects the potential base pay across the U.S. for this role (except as noted below); the applicable base pay range will depend on what ultimately is determined to be the candidate’s primary work location. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.

At Microsoft certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
