Principal Responsibilities:

We are looking for an energetic, approachable and fun individual to teach our Aqua Zumba classes. This person will have a passion for exercise - plus experience and certification - as well as a desire to help populations of all ages to achieve their in-water goals. The ideal candidate will have a knack for instruction and make class time a highlight of participants' weeks. Instructors will be responsible for class preparation, including music and plans for the day. This position will be for 2 hours per week and is located in Newton.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • designs, instructs and facilitates Aqua Zumba classes
  • creates a safe, supportive environment which fosters confidence and skill-appropriate conditioning
  • ensures safety of all swimmers by preventative measures and minimizing hazardous situations
  • builds trust and fosters self-confidence; adapts approach as needed to meet unique needs of each swimmer
  • maintains discretion
  • provides ongoing, effective communication with supervisor regarding all classes and programming
  • maintains class records
  • manages equipment used for sessions
  • recognize and respond according to protocols in emergency situations
  • other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • energetic, patient, flexible, creative and empathic
  • loves working with adults helping them achieve their goals
  • water aerobics instruction experience; JCC will work with otherwise qualified candidate to train in Aqua Zumba specialty
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certified
  • strong customer service and teamwork orientation
  • experience teaching aqua Zumba classes
  • 21 years of age or older
  • high school education or equivalent

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • able to see, hear and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding services
  • capable of working in a high temperature and high humidity environment for extended periods while wearing required personal protective equipment
  • able to stand, sit or lay on the pool deck and move their body in a way similar to how the participants in the water should (demonstrating)
  • able to lift up to 30 pounds
  • able to make safety related decisions
  • read, write, understand and speak English
  • frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel
  • vision requirements include the ability to read routine and technical documents, use a computer, and answer a telephone
  • individual will need to demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with community members and coworkers in person, over email and on the phone
