Grain Processing Corporation (GPC) is a privately held, family owned company located in Muscatine, Iowa. GPC is a subsidiary of Kent Corporation, and is a leading manufacturer of corn-based products such as food and nutraceutical starches, maltodextrins, corn syrup solids, industrial starches, and USP ethyl alcohol.

This hands-on laboratory position is responsible for designing and carrying out detailed experiments to understand the functionality of GPC ingredients in food, nutraceutical, and personal care applications. This will extend to evaluation and performance in finished formulas, as well as analysis and characterization of individual ingredients. This role interacts with internal teams, as well as current and potential external customers, via phone and on-line. This position requires flexibility in dealing with multiple priorities. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilize GPC ingredients or the application of GPC ingredients in the food, nutraceutical and personal care industry
  • Perform hands-on laboratory testing of processes and materials most commonly found in the food, nutraceutical, and personal care industries
  • Assist Scientists in the development of formulations and information for the use of GPC’s products in a broad array of applications and industries
  • Evaluate new product prototypes as part of an interactive product development process
  • Work independently to develop testing protocols
  • Create technical product literature based on laboratory experiments and resulting data
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or other science-based curriculum is required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Collaborative, able to communicate with teams and a variety of individuals
  • Able to work independently to manage projects and experiments to completion
  • Attention to detail and effective time management skills are vital to meet deadlines
  • Requires flexibility in dealing with multiple priorities
EXPERIENCE:
  • 1 to 3 years of industry experience is desired. Relevant internship or co-op assignments may apply to experience level.
  • Basic understanding of Organic and Food Chemistry
  • Food laboratory experience including use of laboratory equipment and safe laboratory practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Computer skills, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint
TRAVEL:
  • Some travel may be required for technical meeting, customer visits or training.
OTHER:
  • Greater than 80% of normal work load is lab based
  • Regular attendance is required
