We are looking for a new colleague to join our Seatbelts Engineering Team in Washington, MI!

Position Summary: The purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate the product application development for SBS product families within one or multiple customers. The Application Engineer is the main contact for all technical matters to the customer, as well as for the Product Design. The Application Engineer handles all development activities in terms of specifications, DVP&R, FMEA, Product approvals, etc. and takes care of the coordination of all technical requirements, problems, and change requests from the customer and system environment coming towards the product development team. The Application Engineer must guarantee maximum customer focus and achieve best customer satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the product design, development, and validation testing of seat belt products.
• Create and coordinate the design validation plans and testing both internal and with the customer to validate designs and design changes. Serve as the key engineering contact with customer engineering teams.
• Support production launch aspects of program.
• Develop timing plans and track open issues to support program development and customer deliverables.
• Coordinate prototype tooling fabrication and shipment/fabrication of prototypes as required by development plan and customer.
• Create ECNs, Engineering Documentation, DFMEAs, BOMs, and specifications for ZF and customers.
• Support internal program team to achieve successful launch and maintenance of customer projects.
• Determine design feasibility and product cost estimates for new business sourcing.
• Establish and track program deliverables for the customer.
• Coordinate validation of tooling and product to customer requirements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
• 1+ years engineering work and related experience with application engineering or product design that may include automotive safety systems, plastic injection molding, automotive interior components, or other class A automotive applications. (Internship/co-op included).
• Strong analytical capabilities including root cause problem solving, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and Design of Experiments (DOE).
• Strong product development knowledge including technical drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T) and design stack up analysis.
• Good customer relations skills.
• Able to travel internationally as required.
